Ford Focus 2007 User Manual – OEM Factory Document, Not a Knockoff

2007 Ford Focus User Manual cover showing factory specifications and safety warnings

I’ve lost count of how many aftermarket manuals I’ve thrown across the shop because the torque spec for a lug nut said “tighten to snug.” Snug means nothing. 2007 Ford Focus lug nuts get torqued to 85 ft-lb, and that number is on page 156 of this User Manual. If you’re working on your own car and don’t want to snap a stud or lose a wheel on the highway, you need the factory document. This one comes straight from Ford, 224 pages, printed for the 2007 model year. No reprints, no copy-paste jobs from a third party.

You’re not guessing bulb types. You’re not hoping the fuse box diagram matches. This manual lists every bulb by Ford part number, tells you the exact procedure to replace the headlamp assembly without cracking the housing, and warns you about condensation inside the lens (page 32). That’s the kind of detail that keeps your car from looking like a salvage-yard special.

What the Ford Focus 2007 User Manual Covers

Break-in procedure. Warning symbol meanings (yes, there’s a difference between the yellow triangle and the red circle). Instrument cluster gauges and what that wrench light actually means. Entertainment systems – AM/FM with single CD, in-dash six CD, and the MP3-compatible unit. Climate controls: heater-only and manual A/C. Each one has operating tips written by the engineers who designed the system. If you’ve ever fought with a blend door actuator because a generic manual told you to “remove the dashboard,” you’ll appreciate the factory steps.

Lights section alone is worth the access. “Aiming the Headlamps – Vertical aim adjustment” is a specific procedure, not a paragraph of generic advice. Bulb replacement covers eleven different exterior bulbs across four body styles: 3-door, 5-door, sedan, and wagon. The Ford Focus 2000 Troubleshooting Manual shares a similar platform, but for 2007-specific lighting you want this document.

Lug Nut Torque and Other Critical Specs

Page 156. That’s where you’ll find the lug nut torque. 85 ft-lb for steel wheels, 85 ft-lb for aluminum. Don’t argue with me. It’s in the book. Maintenance product specifications and capacities (page 206) include engine oil with API certification, coolant type (Motorcraft Premium Gold), and transmission fluid. Engine data (page 209) gives you bore, stroke, compression ratio. If you’re doing a timing belt, you still need the service manual, but this user manual tells you the fluid specs so you don’t fill the transaxle with the wrong ATF.

Bulb Replacement: Know the Right Bulbs Before You Open the Headlamp

Headlamp condensation is addressed – Ford tells you it’s normal and how to clear it. Then they walk you through replacement of every bulb: headlamp, park/turn, tail/brake/backup (different for each body style), foglamp, side marker, high-mount brake, license plate, luggage compartment, interior dome, and reading lamps. Each one has a Ford part number. I’ve seen DIYers upgrade to LEDs and blow the BCM because they used the wrong bulb. This manual prevents that. For the sedan tail lights, the procedure on page 35 shows you the exact locking tab location.

SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft – How to Program Spare Keys

Page 60 covers the anti-theft system. The SecuriLock system uses a transponder in the key. You can’t just cut a brass key and hope it starts – the PATS module needs to see the correct code. The manual gives you the step-by-step to program two spare keys yourself, provided you already have two valid keys. This saves you a trip to the dealer and $50. If you lose all your keys, you’re stuck, but the manual also explains the anti-theft indicator behavior so you know it’s working.

Engine Compartment and Fluid Capacities

Page 179 shows you the engine compartment layout – where the dipstick, brake fluid reservoir, and coolant tank live. Engine oil capacity (with filter) is 4.5 quarts for the 2.0L. Coolant capacity is 5.5 quarts. Those numbers matter when you’re buying fluids. The manual also includes the part numbers for filters and belts (page 204). You can cross-reference with aftermarket parts if you want, but the Ford part numbers are right there.

If you need wiring diagrams for a 2004 or 2005 Focus, those are different manuals. Check the Ford Focus 2004 Wiring Diagram and Ford Focus 2005 Wiring Diagram for electrical troubleshooting. This user manual doesn’t include wiring diagrams, but it gives you the fuse panel locations and relay assignments for roadside emergencies (page 145).

FAQ

Does this manual cover the Ford Focus wagon?
Yes. Pages 32–37 cover wagon-specific bulb replacement for tail/brake/backup lights and the rear wiper washer.
Can I use this for an engine rebuild?
This is a user manual, not a service manual. It covers maintenance items like oil change intervals, fluid capacities, and tire inflation. For internal engine work – pistons, rings, valve clearances – you need the Ford factory service manual (the 2-volume set). However, the user manual does include engine data (page 209) with bore and stroke specs, which can help you verify parts. It also lists the lug nut torque (page 156) and the proper jacking points (page 151) so you don’t crush the rocker panel. It’s a critical companion but not a rebuild guide.

That’s it. 224 pages. OEM print. Ford Motor Company copyright 2006. The only thing missing is the grease under your fingernails. Access the Factory Manual and start your job with the right numbers.
