Doosan G15S-5, G18S-5, G20SC-5, GC15S-5, GC18S-5 2007 Technical Manual

Doosan G15S-5 G18S-5 G20SC-5 GC15S-5 GC18S-5 2007 Technical Manual cover page showing power train diagram

You’ve got a Doosan forklift with a trans that’s slipping, or maybe the inching pedal feels like a sponge. I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years – ASE Master since ’96 – and I’ll tell you flat: you need the factory book. Not a third-party rehash, not a DVD that skips the torque tables. This Doosan G15S-5, G18S-5, G20SC-5, GC15S-5, GC18S-5 2007 Technical Manual is the one Doosan printed in April 2007. 55 pages, no fluff, and the only specs that matter when the shop foreman is breathing down your neck.

Aftermarket manuals love to give you a generic “tighten to spec” line. That gets parts returned and customers angry. This manual came from Doosan engineering. Every tightening torque on the transmission – page 8 in the Specification section – is factory validated. I’ve seen a guy snap a valve body bolt because he used a Chilton chart. Don’t be that guy.

Specification: Clutch Elements and Torque Converter (Page 5)

Section starts with forward/reverse clutch element data. It lists the number of plates, friction disc thickness, and the clearance you need to measure during a rebuild. The torque converter stall speed is right there – you need that number before you start blaming the engine. Also covers the valve block elements on top of the transmission (page 6) and the valve spring in the transmission bearing plate (page 7). That spring spec is easy to miss if you’re using a generic manual; wrong tension and the clutch packs chatter.

Transmission Power Flow: Forward and Reverse Schematics

Pages 14 and 15 show the power flow in forward and reverse. Not just arrows on a drawing – the manual explains which clutches engage, which one-way sprags lock, and what happens when the torque converter multiplies. If you’re diagnosing a no-move or a slow reverse, trace the flow. The hydraulic system schematic on page 17 feeds into the control valve details on page 26. That’s where the real troubleshooting starts.

Control Valve and Hydraulic System (Page 26)

Page 26 covers the control valve assembly – the spool bores, the spring rates, and the pressure regulator settings. You need the factory pressure values because aftermarket books often round them. A 10 psi difference on a clutch apply can cause slip or flare. The valve body section is linked to the transmission hydraulic system on page 17, so you can follow the oil path from the pump to the clutch packs.

Testing and Adjusting: Troubleshooting and Pressure Tests

Starting on page 32, there’s a troubleshooting chart that lists symptoms (no forward, no reverse, low stall speed, high oil temperature) and possible causes. Don’t skip page 38 – the transmission pressure tests. You’ll need a 0-300 psi gauge and the specified test ports. The converter stall test on page 40 requires a tachometer and a clean work area; this manual tells you the exact RPM limits. Follow it, or you’ll cook the converter.

Maintenance: Inching Pedal and Drive Axle Adjustments

Page 48 shows the inching pedal adjustment – a common headache on older Doosan units. If the transmission doesn’t disengage when you press the pedal, you need the clearance spec between the plunger and the spool. The drive axle adjustments start on page 51: wheel bearing preload, differential backlash. The electric control system test on page 44 covers the solenoid resistance values and wiring continuity. All factory numbers.

Audience Fit: Who Needs This Doosan Technical Manual?

If you’re a DIY garage owner keeping a fleet of G15S-5 or GC18S-5 machines running, you’ll use this manual to avoid guessing. It assumes you know how to use a torque wrench and a pressure gauge, but it holds your hand on the sequence. Professional mechanics – skip the taking-apart-the-first-time mistakes. Workshop owners: hand this to your techs so they stop wasting time on wrong specs. It covers the G15S-5, G18S-5, G20SC-5, GC15S-5, and GC18S-5 models, plus the D-series variants (D15S-5, D18S-5, D20SC-5, GC20SC-5) for power train only.

Source Validity: OEM Factory Documentation vs Aftermarket

This is a direct scan of the original April 2007 Doosan Technical Manual. Not a copy of a copy. Not a repackaged CD with missing pages. The PDF has 55 pages, watermarked with the original file name: DOOSAN_D15S-5-D18S-5-D20SC-5-G15S-5-G18S-5_2007_Technical_Manual_en-22213018742.pdf. You can cross-reference with your local Doosan dealer. I’ve used aftermarket manuals that reversed the forward/reverse clutch spring lengths – cost me a whole Saturday. Don’t trust a third-party when the factory print exists. Related manuals: Doosan G15S-5 G18S-5 G20SC-5 Service Manual 2007 covers the whole machine; this technical manual focuses on the power train. FAQ

Does this manual include the electrical system for the entire forklift?
No. This manual covers only the power train – transmission, torque converter, drive axle, and differential. For the engine and chassis electrical, you need the separate Service Manual.
What torque values are listed for the valve body bolts?
Page 8 has the full tightening torque table for the transmission, including valve body bolts, clutch housing bolts, and converter bolts. All values are in ft-lbs and use standard Doosan threadlock specifications. Do not substitute aftermarket values – we’ve seen stripped threads from using generic charts. The manual also mentions the valve spring specifications on page 7, which are critical for maintaining proper clutch pressure.
