Description
Doosan DL08 2005 Workshop Manual
I’ve seen techs try to rebuild a Doosan DL08 2005 Workshop Manual using aftermarket specs. That’s how you get a head gasket failure at 200 hours. This manual – 184 pages of factory documentation – keeps that from happening. It’s the same binder the dealer techs used when this engine was new. And it covers the complete Engine assembly, from the safety regulations on page 1 to the special tool list on page 162.

Engine Specs and Safety Regulations
Section 1 starts with the stuff that keeps you alive. Safety Regulations, Engine Specifications, Power ratings, and the performance curve. Page 1 to page 10. If you skip this section, you miss the allowable operating limits. Doosan lists the exact firing order, compression pressures, and coolant capacity. No guesswork.
What the Disassembly Section Actually Covers
If you’re planning to pull this engine apart, Section 3 (page 43) is where you live. It’s not just a list of steps. It gives you inspection and measurement procedures on major parts – crankshaft journals, cylinder bores, piston rings. You get the factory wear limits. Then reassembly with tightening sequences and clearances. The fuel injection system is in its own subsection (3.4) with pump timing data. The electrical system (3.5) includes the ECU operating conditions. That’s the part that most aftermarket manuals butcher.
Is the Fuel Injection System Covered?
Fuel injection is the heart of a direct-injection diesel. Section 3.4 walks through removal, inspection, and installation of the injection pump and nozzles. It also references the diagnostic tool SCAN-200 (Section 2.2) for reading fault codes. If you don’t have that tool, the manual still gives you mechanical timing marks and valve overlap data. You can set timing with a dial indicator if needed. Page 43 shows the disassembly sequence for the entire fuel system.
4 Commissioning Procedures You Need to Follow
Section 4 (page 130) covers commissioning and operation. Breaking-in procedure. Inspections after first start. Winter operation adjustments. Long-time running checks. You get the valve clearance adjustment in Section 4.8 and the cylinder head bolt tightening procedure in Section 4.9. Each step includes the torque values in ft-lbs. I’ve seen shops skip the break-in step and then wonder why the rings never seat. This manual tells you the load schedule.
Get the Right Torque on Cylinder Head Bolts
Cylinder head bolts are the most common place I see failures. Section 4.9 gives the exact tightening sequence and angle. Doosan uses a torque-plus-angle method. The manual lists the initial torque, then the final angle. If you use the wrong angle, you warp the head. Page 140 has the table. Don’t improvise.
Source Validity – Why OEM Beats Aftermarket
Aftermarket manuals for the DL08 often copy from earlier versions or just guess at specs. This one is the original Doosan Infracore publication from September 2005. The PDF is a direct scan of the dealer book. You get the part numbers for special tools (Section 6, page 162) and the official torque data. If you need the Doosan DL08 Diesel Engine Operation & Maintenance Manual for daily running checks, pair it with this workshop manual. For training material, check the Doosan DL08 Engine 2008 Training Manual. The appendix in the operation manual also has specs – see the Doosan DL08 Diesel Engine Operation & Maintenance Manual – Section: Appendix.
When you’re mating the engine to a Manual Transmission, the flywheel housing alignment specs come from Section 3. Same for any Manual Transmission adapter – the manual gives the bolt patterns and pilot bearing depth.
- Does this manual include wiring diagrams?
-
Yes, Section 3.5 covers the electrical system with schematics for the ECU and sensors.
- What is the correct valve clearance for the DL08?
-
The manual specifies intake and exhaust clearance in Section 4.8. I don’t have the exact number in front of me, but it’s listed in the adjustment procedure. You’ll need a feeler gauge and the manual open to that page.
- Can I use this manual for other Doosan engines?
-
This manual is specific to the DL08 model as built in 2005. Doosan used different blocks for marine versus industrial applications. The DL08 marine variant has different cooling system routing and different injection timing than a generator set version. If you try to apply these specs to a different Doosan engine, you risk scoring a cylinder or blowing a turbo seal. The 184 pages here are only for the DL08. Check your engine model and serial number against Section 2.1 before you start. That’s page 11.
- How do I access the PDF?
-
After purchase, you access the file. It’s a direct PDF of the original shop manual. No watermarks.
Access the Factory Manual and get the OEM data that keeps your DL08 running at spec. No aftermarket nonsense – just the real Doosan procedure from 2005.
