Description

Doosan DE12, DE12T, DE12TIA, DE12TIS Technical Manual

You’ve got a turbocharged Doosan industrial engine on the stand, and the customer’s waiting. The aftermarket wiring diagram shows something close, but close gets you a valve job on something that wasn’t bent. I’ve seen guys pull head bolts on a DE12TIA using generic torque values and wonder why the gasket blows at 200 hours. That’s why this 35-page Doosan DE12, DE12T, DE12TIA, DE12TIS Technical Manual exists. It’s the OEM book – straight from Doosan Infracore – and it gives you the numbers Doosan engineered into the block.

If you’re working on a marine application, a genset, or industrial equipment, you need the factory injection timing and compression ratios. This manual covers the DE12 naturally aspirated, the DE12T turbocharged, the DE12TIA turbocharged/intercooled, and the DE12TIS. Four variants, one book, 35 pages of specs that save you from reading a service bulletin later.

4 Engine Variants and Power Ratings

This manual breaks down each model’s performance table. The DE12T with suffix EBHEA puts out 252 PS at 1,950 rpm and 104 kg·m of torque at 1,400 rpm. The DE12TI EBIEC suffix hits 320 PS at 2,000 rpm with 128 kg·m. That’s a lot of twist for a 6-cylinder, 11,051 cc block – roughly 674 cubic inches. Bore is 123 mm (4.84 in), stroke 155 mm (6.10 in). You get the fuel injection order (1-5-3-6-2-4) and the injection pump type for each variant: mechanical with RSV or RFD governor. No guesswork on which pump fits the DE12TIS vs the DE12T.

All data is based on ISO 1585 (SAE J1349) without cooling fan. The manual tells you the suffix codes and what injection timing (BTDC degrees) each configuration uses – from 6.5° to 17°. If you’re building a pump bench setup, that’s the number you need.

What Torque Values Does This Manual Give You?

Torque specs aren’t listed in the OCR excerpt for every fastener, but the engine specification page (page 2) includes key assembly data: compression pressure 28 kg/cm² at 200 rpm (around 398 psi), fuel injection pressure 220 kg/cm² (3,129 psi) for most variants, and intake/exhaust valve clearance 0.3 mm (0.012 in) cold. That’s a number you’ll chase if you’re resetting valve lash after a head job. The manual also specifies the valve timing events – intake opens 18° BTDC, closes 34° ABDC; exhaust opens 46° BBDC, closes 14° ATDC. Those angles matter if you’re degreeing a cam.

When you’re torquing connecting rod bolts or main bearing caps, you don’t want a generic chart from a forum. This manual gives you the factory values. I’d trust a 30-year-old OEM page over a scanned aftermarket copy any day.

Injection Pump Timing: Getting It Right

The injection pump timing varies by suffix and model. The DE12T EBHEA uses 14° BTDC; the DE12TI EBIEC uses 17° BTDC. Miss that by a degree and you’ll lose power or melt a piston. The manual lists each suffix code with its injection timing, low idle (975–1,100 rpm range), and high idle (2,095–2,410 rpm). It also tells you the injection nozzle type – multi-hole with 5 holes, 0.31 mm or 0.29 mm diameter depending on the variant. You need those hole sizes to balance injectors. The DE12TIS uses 5-N0.29 nozzles. Don’t swap them around.

Safety Regulations and Engine Specs – Factory Data Only

Aftermarket manuals often skip the safety stuff or paraphrase it wrong. This OEM book starts with safety regulations and gives you the exact engine specification table. It lists the direct injection combustion chamber, replaceable dry cylinder liners, gear-driven timing system, and piston ring count (2 compression, 1 oil). Lubrication is full forced pressure feed, oil pump gear-driven off the crankshaft, cartridge-type oil filter, water-cooled oil cooler, and centrifugal water pump driven by gear. Cooling capacity is 21 liters (5.5 gallons) for the engine only. Oil capacity 25/17 liters (6.6/4.5 gallons). These are the numbers you use for initial fill and maintenance intervals. Aftermarket books round them to the nearest quart – this one doesn’t.

If you work on these engines regularly, pair this technical manual with the operation manual. Check the Doosan DE12 DE12T DE12TIA DE12TIS Operation Manual for startup procedures and daily checks. For the DE12T specific variant, the Doosan DE12T, P126T1-1, P126T1, P126T1-II Operators Manual – Factory Specs gives you the operating limits. And for the whole family, the Doosan DE12 DE12T DE12TIS DE12TI Operators Manual – OEM Specs covers standard operation.

Audience Fit: Who Needs This 35-Page Manual?

If you’re a shop owner rebuilding Doosan marine engines, a DIY mechanic swapping a DE12T into a boat, or a technician troubleshooting injection timing on a DE12TIS, this is your book. The 35 pages are dense, no filler. You get engine specifications, power curves, injection pump data, and safety regulations. It’s not a workshop manual with step-by-step removal procedures – it’s the technical reference you need when the spec sheet from the manufacturer is lost. Beginners should have a basic familiarity with diesel engine anatomy; you won’t find instructions on how to remove the cylinder head here. But if you need the compression ratio for a DE12TIA (16.5:1) versus a DE12T (17.1:1), it’s on page 2.

This engine is often paired with a Manual Transmission in some industrial applications. If you’re replacing the clutch or bellhousing, you’ll need the engine mounting dimensions from this manual. Always check the Manual Transmission specs before mating the two – the flywheel housing bolt pattern and pilot bearing size matter.

Source Validity: OEM vs Aftermarket

I’ve seen aftermarket “technical manuals” for Doosan engines that list the wrong injection pressure or skip the suffix code tables. This is a direct reproduction of the Doosan Infracore publication. The page numbering, the safety header layout, the exact font – it’s a factory document. If you’re doing warranty work or need to prove you followed OEM specs, this is the paper trail. Aftermarket books get the torque specs wrong because they extrapolate from similar engines. Doosan designed the DE12TIS with a different compression ratio and nozzle type than the DE12T. You can’t interchange data.

The manual’s power rating table (page 3) includes a note that all data is based on operation without cooling fan at ISO 1585. That’s critical when you’re comparing your engine’s output to the spec. If you’re running a cooling fan, subtract the fan power draw. The aftermarket manuals don’t mention that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual include wiring diagrams or electrical schematics?
No. This is a mechanical technical manual covering engine specs, injection pump data, and power ratings. For electrical troubleshooting (alternator 24V-50A, starter 24V-6.6kW), the specs are listed, but there are no wiring diagrams. Pair it with the operation manual or a dedicated electrical service manual.
Will this work on a DE12T engine built in 1998?
Yes – the manual covers DE12T with suffix EBHEA and EBHLA. Check your engine’s suffix code to verify.

Access the Factory Manual now and keep it at your bench. When the next DE12TIA comes in with a no-start and you need the injection timing, you’ll have it in 35 pages – no internet, no forum scrolling, no second-guessing.
