Ratio Table and Identification

Page 2 of this catalog gives you the ratio table for all four models. First gear 2.37, second 1.24, direct 1.00, overdrive 0.812. Shift plate numbers are listed: NP-142 for the AMO1000-4C and AMO1000-4D, NP-119 for the APO variants. You also get the name plate location (NP-96 on the rear of the transmission). When calling in for parts, the serial, B/M number, and model are all right there. No need to decode anything yourself.

Does This Parts Catalog Cover Both Manual and Air-Matic Shift?

Yes. The gears section (pages 3-6) lists parts for both manual shift and Air-Matic shift transmissions. Do not assume the shift housing is the same – the catalog splits those assemblies into separate sections. Current production manual shift housings are on pages 11-12; Air-Matic shift housings are on pages 13-14. If you order the wrong shift housing because you used an aftermarket source, that is on you. The factory catalog makes the distinction clear.

Case, Bearing Cap, and Related Parts

Pages 7-10 cover the case assembly and bearing cap. Exploded views show every bolt and shim. When you are rebuilding an auxiliary transmission, the case half alignment and bearing preload depend on knowing which cap goes where. This catalog gives you the part numbers for the case, bearing cap, and all the related hardware. Do not rely on a generic diagram that lumps everything together – Spicer used different caps depending on the build date.

Check the Supersession List Before Ordering Parts

Pages 34-40 contain the supersession list. This is the most valuable part of a factory parts catalog for a mechanic who has been burned by NLA (No Longer Available) parts. The supersession list tells you which part numbers replaced older ones. For example, a shift fork that was originally listed as part number A might now be superseded by part number B. If you order the old number, you get nothing. The catalog even states at the bottom of page 2: “PARTS LISTED IN THIS CATALOG MAY NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE, USE WITH TRANSMISSION SUPERSEDING LIST.” That warning is not optional.

Top Mounted Power Take-Offs: What You’ll Find on Pages 41-49

The last section of this catalog (pages 41-49) details the top mounted power take-offs (PTOs). If you are installing a PTO on an AMO or APO series transmission, you need the correct gasket, cover, and drive gear. The tabulated bills of material (pages 22-33) cross-reference every assembly to its individual components. Do not try to match a PTO by eye – the spline count and mounting pattern vary between models. Use the factory data.

Service Parts Kits and Companion Flanges

Pages 17-20 list the service parts kits – gasket sets, seal kits, and bearing kits. Page 21 covers companion flanges, flange yokes, and end yokes. When you order a yoke without cross-referencing the flange size, you end up with a driveshaft that does not fit. The catalog gives the exact flange part numbers for each model. No guesswork.

Then turn to pages 34-40, which list old part numbers alongside their current supersession numbers. If the old number is not listed, it may still be available or replaced by a kit. Always check the supersession list before ordering – the catalog states some parts may no longer be available. Cross-reference with the tabulated bills of material (pages 22-33) to verify the assembly contains the updated parts.

Factory documentation from Dana Spicer is the only source I trust for parts identification. The aftermarket catalogs I have seen miss the supersession notes and combine different year ranges into one confusing chart. This 2006 parts catalog was printed by TTC Automotive (the Spicer transmission division) and is still the correct reference for these auxiliary transmissions.
