Description

Daimlerchrysler Intrepid, 300M, Concorde 2002 Technical Manual

If you’re trying to rebuild a 2002 Intrepid front suspension and the only thing in your hand is a Chilton’s book with a torque spec that looks like a guess, you know the feeling. I’ve been there. The Daimlerchrysler Intrepid, 300M, Concorde 2002 Technical Manual is what you reach for when you want the actual factory number, not some aftermarket approximation. This isn’t a reprint of a reprint – it’s the same 500-page binder the dealer techs pulled parts from. No guessing, no internet forum hunches.

DaimlerChrysler Intrepid 300M Concorde 2002 Technical Manual cover page

VIN decoding is where the whole job starts. Page 1 gives you the full breakdown – position 5 tells you if you’re looking at a Chrysler Intrepid (Canada), a Chrysler 300M, or a Concorde. Engine codes? Position 8 spells it out: V for 3.5L Magnum, R for 2.7L, K for 3.5L HO. No mystery. If you need to cross-reference a build sheet, DaimlerChrysler VIN Plate Decoding Manual is a companion piece you’ll want.

Front Suspension & Drive: Fig. 2-110 Suspension, Front

Group 2 covers the front knuckle, control arms, and the axle shafts. The exploded-view diagrams show every bushing and bolt. You’ll see the torque sequence for the strut-to-knuckle bolts – that’s the kind of detail that keeps a bushing from squeaking a month later. The manual lists required tool numbers for the ball joint press. If you skip that step, you’ll oval out the control arm.

Service Brakes: Rear Disc Brake Specs

Group 5 is where you find the real numbers. The rear disc brake caliper slide pin torque – it’s in there. The parking brake lever assembly and cables are drawn out in Fig. 4-110. Don’t trust the internet for brake line routing. The manual shows the exact clip positions for front and rear brake lines (Fig. 5-510 and 5-520). One wrong clip and you get a rub-through on a hard turn.

Cooling System: Radiator and Water Pump Parts

Group 7 gives you the cooling circuit. Fig. 7-110 shows the radiator and related parts for the 2.7L and 3.5L engines. The water pump and pulley layouts are separate – Fig. 7-210 for the pump, Fig. 7-415 for the 2.7L drive pulleys. If you’re doing a thermostat, the coolant recovery system plumbing is in Fig. 7-310. I’ve seen guys cross-thread the upper radiator hose into a plastic tank because they didn’t have the factory clamp orientation.

Electrical System: Sensors and Modules

Group 8 is the thickest section. Starters (Fig. 8-105), alternators for both engine families (Fig. 8-205 and 8-210), and the full power distribution center with fuse locations (Fig. 8-505). The engine sensor diagrams (Fig. 8-605 for 2.7L, Fig. 8-610 for 3.5L) show pinouts and expected resistances. If your 300M has a no-start condition, the single board engine controller info (Fig. 8-705) will save you from swapping parts.

Mopar Accessories: Audio and Navigation Kits

Group 1 lists every dealer-installed option. Fig. 1-140 is the navigation kit for the Intrepid; Fig. 1-142 is for the 300M. CD changer kits in 4, 6, and 12-disc versions – all with install instructions. If you’re adding a trailer tow harness (Fig. 1-290), the manual gives the factory wiring pinout. Aftermarket harnesses often skip the brake controller relay.

This manual is built for the guy who owns a set of torque wrenches and knows that 45 ft-lbs on a caliper bracket is not the same as 45 ft-lbs on a wheel stud. The factory spec is printed on the same page as the part number. No ambiguity.

3 Reasons Factory Torque Specs Beat Aftermarket

Aftermarket manuals round numbers. Factory spec says 21 ft-lbs for the water pump pulley bolts. Aftermarket says 20-25. That range is a guess. The factory manual gives you a single number because they tested it. Same for the brake pedal assembly torque (Fig. 5-610). If you want your brakes to feel right, use the factory number.

Is This Manual Worth 500 Pages?

Think about what 500 pages means. It’s not fluff – it’s exploded views, torque tables, and diagnostic trees. Every group has its own index. The wiring diagrams are separate from the component locations. You can find a specific relay in under a minute. That’s the difference between a 500-page factory manual and a 200-page aftermarket summary.

FAQ

What model years does this manual cover?
2002 model year only.
Does it include the 3.5L engine info?
Yes, the 3.5L engine (codes EGJ, EGC, EGK) is fully documented in Groups 7 and 8 – water pump, drive pulleys, alternator, sensors, and the single board engine controller. The manual covers both the 2.7L and 3.5L powertrains across Intrepid, 300M, and Concorde.
Can I use this for a 2001 Concorde?
This is strictly for the 2002 model year. The VIN plate decoding on page 1 shows year code 2 for 2002. For 2001 you’d need the matching 2001 technical manual.
Are the wiring diagrams colored or black-and-white?
Black-and-white line drawings, but each wire is labeled with color codes and gauge. The diagrams in Group 8 (wiring engine, body, instrument panel) are factory schematics – you can trace a short circuit without a multimeter if you read them carefully.

Stop chasing aftermarket numbers that don’t add up. Access the Factory Manual and get the actual specs DaimlerChrysler put in their own bindery.
