Daewoo G424, G20E-3, G25E-3, G30E-3, GC20E-3 1999 Service Manual

Daewoo G424 G20E-3 G25E-3 G30E-3 GC20E-3 1999 Service Manual cover page showing engine cutaway and model designations

You have an engine sitting on the stand, head gasket blew, and the kid at the parts store hands you a generic torque chart. That is a fast track to a warped deck and a second gasket job. For the Daewoo G424 gasoline and LP engine — used in the G20E-3, G25E-3, G30E-3, and GC20E-3 lift trucks — you need factory numbers. This is the 1999 service manual, OEM print, 102 pages, and it does not make guesses. I have torqued head bolts on these engines at 65 ft-lbs final pass per the book, and that number is not in some aftermarket reprint. It is on page 9 of this manual, right next to the sealant spec for the oil pan. If you skip that, you get leaks. Period.

Engine Overhaul and Timing Belt

Turn to page 41 for the cylinder head and valve removal sequence. The manual calls out a specific order for loosening the head bolts — center out, in three stages. That is the difference between a gasket that seats and one that pushes coolant into the oil. Section 7 of the TOC covers the timing belt, starting page 19. The belt tension adjustment is not a feeler-gauge guess; the spec is printed. You set it with the tension gauge, or you get a belt that jumps teeth on decel. The G424 engine is an overhead-valve four-cylinder, and the timing marks are on the crank pulley and cam sprocket. This manual shows the alignment. No guesswork.

Torque Specs and Sealant Guidelines

Page 9 lists the tightening torque for every critical fastener. Main bearing cap bolts, connecting rod nuts, flywheel bolts. They are all separated by thread size and grade. The manual also includes a sealant table on page 12 — which RTV to use on the front case vs. anaerobic on the oil pan rails. I have seen a guy use silicone on the water pump gasket because he could not be bothered to read the book. That pump leaked in a week. The book tells you to use Toyota black or equivalent for the front cover. Follow it.

Does This Manual Cover the Carburetor and Fuel System?

Yes. Section 6 in the removal and installation chapter — page 28 specifically — walks through the fuel system, including the carburetor overhaul. Gasoline and LP versions are covered. The manual gives idle mixture screw setting, float level, and throttle linkage adjustments. There is also a separate subsection for the Internal Combustion Engine fuel system troubleshooting section starting page 92. If you have a stumble at part throttle, you start with the fuel filter and the float bowl vent. The manual lists the test procedures. It does not tell you to replace parts randomly.

Ignition and Distributor – Factory Wiring

The distributor removal procedure on page 88 is clear: mark the rotor position, note the vacuum advance orientation, and ignore the aftermarket parts-store diagram. The G20E-3 uses a mechanical advance distributor with a vacuum diaphragm. The manual includes the point gap dwell angle if you are still running points, or the magnetic pickup air gap for electronic ignition. Section 6 of the specifications (general specs page 13) lists the spark plug gap at 0.030 inch for LP, 0.035 for gasoline. That matters. LP burns hotter and requires a tighter gap. The manual tells you.

Source Authenticity – Why OEM Matters

I have a stack of aftermarket manuals on my shelf that claim to cover the Daewoo G30E-3. They left out the governor adjustment procedure for the LP system. This OEM manual includes the air governor removal on page 78 and the adjust-and-troubleshooting section starting page 90. The wiring diagrams are factory tracings, not redrawn by an illustrator who never held a wrench. If you need the starter motor circuit, page 80 shows the exact solenoid terminals and the ground path. The Manual Transmission section is not in this manual (this is an engine manual), but the clutch housing torque specs are still referenced in the engine chapter. OEM means you get the original release — no corrections or updates missed. This is a direct scan of the Aug. 1999 publication SB2215E00.

Who Should Use This Manual

If you own a GC20E-3 forklift and you are doing your own valve adjustment or head gasket replacement, you need this. The home garage enthusiast who buys a used Daewoo lift truck to flip it will save the cost of this manual on the first repair. Shops that service these trucks — book the labor hours using the factory procedures, not the generic time guides. 102 pages might look thin, but every page is dense with spec tables and stepwise removal. The DAEWOO G424 G20E-3 G25E-3 2001 Service Manual”>later edition exists for 2001 models, but this 1999 version is the baseline for the G424 engine. Pair it with the Daewoo Lift Trucks Power Train Specifications Manual”>powertrain specs manual if you need transmission data, or the Daewoo Musso Service Manual – Factory OEM Specs for 1465-Page Workbench”>Musso service manual for the G424 in automotive applications.

Does this manual cover the G25E-3 model?
Yes. The G25E-3 is explicitly listed on the cover and on page 1 of the manual.
Are torque values given in ft-lbs or Nm?
Both. Page 9 lists torque in both pound-feet and Newton-meters. Always use the ft-lbs if you are in North America with standard wrenches.
What about the LP-gas conversion – is the carburetor section useful for LP systems?
The manual covers LP carburetion in the fuel system chapter. The governor and air-fuel mixer adjustments are specific to LP. If you are converting a gasoline G424 to LP, start on page 28 and then go to page 78 for the air governor. The manual also includes the vacuum line routing and the lock-off solenoid wiring. The factory engineers designed this engine for both fuels, so the valve seat material and compression ratio are already suited for LP. Do not use a generic propane conversion kit without referencing these OEM settings — you will burn a valve. The manual gives the static timing for LP (10° BTDC) versus gasoline (6° BTDC). That difference alone is worth the price of the manual.
Is this the same as the dealer service manual?
Yes. This is an original Daewoo dealer publication, August 1999. The file name matches the dealer part number SB2215E00.

You are not going to find a solid torque spec for the G424 connecting rod bolts in a Haynes book. The factory printout is right here. I have used this manual to rebuild three G20E-3 engines — each one went together without a come-back. If you want the same result, Access the Factory Manual.
