Description
Cub Cadet 5254L Parts Catalog

You have a Cub Cadet 5254L with a front axle that’s grinding or leaking. You pull the old part, try to match it against a generic cross-reference list, and order what you think is right. It lands on the bench with a different bolt pattern or the wrong bearing bore. Now you’re down another week waiting on the correct return. That’s the cost of guessing. This factory OEM parts catalog eliminates that guesswork. It is 109 pages of actual Cub Cadet engineering data—part numbers, descriptions, and exploded views straight from the assembly line.
I’ve been wrenching long enough to know that an aftermarket parts list is a gamble. The 5254L Parts Catalog gives you the exact reference numbers for every nut, bolt, bearing, and housing on the tractor. No interpretation. No “fits similar models” nonsense. You get the true part number and the revision level. The 4WD axle assembly for serial numbers 1B065G & Before is laid out on page 1; the later revision 1B075G & After starts on page 3. If you mix those two revisions, you’ll order the wrong kingpin housing (619-04017 vs 619-04017A). That’s a mistake a parts catalog like this stops cold.
Cub Cadet 5254L Parts Catalog – Factory Breakdown for Every Component
This catalog doesn’t skip anything. The front axle section alone covers the drop housings, steering arms, kingpin shafts, stub shafts, bevel gears, bearings, seals, and tie rods. Each component gets its own reference number, part number, and quantity. For example, the oil seal on the axle flange for the early build is part number 721-04057 (38mm x 55mm x 7mm). The later build uses a different kingpin housing assembly but retains many of the same bearings. You need to know which revision your tractor is. Page 1 and page 3 tell you exactly where to look.
4WD Axle Assembly (Part 1) – 1B065G & Before
The exploded view on page 1 is what you want when you’re staring at a pile of metal and grease. It shows the kingpin housing (ref 1), the axle drop housings (ref 2 & 3), the axle covers (ref 4), and the steering arms (ref 5 & 6). Every fastener is listed: hex cap screws M10-1.5 x 35 (ref 7), M8-1.25 x 20 (ref 9), and so on. You can verify thread size, length, and grade before you order. The sealant spec is even there—Loctite Black, 5.3 oz. No guessing what to use on the kingpin housing.
OEM Documentation: Why Aftermarket Cross-References Fail
Aftermarket parts catalogs often take a generic part number from a competitive brand and say “fits Cub Cadet 5254L.” They don’t know about the revision split between 1B065G and 1B075G. They don’t list the left-hand and right-hand thread tie rod ends (ref 29 & 30) with the correct orientation. The factory catalog does. It gives you the exact part number (723-0462 for RH, 723-0463 for LH) and tells you it’s M12-1.75 thread. If you try to swap those, you’ll cross-thread the tie rod. I’ve seen it happen. This isn’t a theory problem.
109 Pages of Factory Part Numbers and Exploded Views
109 pages may sound like a lot for a parts catalog. It is. But that’s because Cub Cadet documented every system on the 5254L—transmission, hydraulics, steering, brakes, electrical, and engine components. The front axle alone takes up the first several pages. You also get the rear axle, PTO, and body panels. Each page is a clean exploded drawing with a matching parts table. You don’t need to interpret fuzzy sketches. These are the same prints the assembly line used.
Use the Exploded Views to Find the Right Part
When you open this catalog, start with the illustration. Find the referenced item number. Cross it to the table. Note the part number and any suffix like “A” for revision. Check the serial number of your tractor against the “Before” or “After” note. Then order that exact part. Keep the catalog open while you inspect the replacement—verify the dimensions against the description. For the axle cover, the catalog says “Cover, Axle” and lists 2 per tractor. If you only need one, you know it’s item 4. No second-guessing.
If you own a Cub Cadet 5254L and plan to keep it running, this is the only source for factory-correct parts information. Stop trusting generic lists. The cost of one wrong part buyback is more than the price of this catalog. Cub Cadet 21121C29025 Parts Catalog – 73 Pages of Factory Specs covers a different series. Cub Cadet 984 Parts Catalog – 128 Pages of OEM Factory Parts Breakdowns and Cub Cadet 81, 21121C290248 Parts Catalog – OEM Factory Breakdown are also available if you work on those models. For a broader look at why original manufacturer documentation is critical, see Automotive Industry Overview and Automotive Industry Overview.
- Does this catalog include torque specifications?
- No. Torque specs are not in a parts catalog.
- What if I need the part number for the steering tie rod?
- The tie rod is on page 1 of the 4WD axle assembly. For the 1B065G & Before revision, you have two tie rods: right-hand thread (ref 29, part 723-0462, M12-1.75) and left-hand thread (ref 30, part 723-0463, M12-1.75). The later revision 1B075G & After uses the same part numbers. Make sure you order the correct hand – if you mix them, the tie rod end will not thread onto the steering arm correctly. This is a common mistake. The catalog makes it clear by stating RH and LH in the description.
