Engine Overhaul: 4G63/4G64 Gas/LPG – GROUP 00(G)

GROUP 00(G) is the big one. Eight sections covering the 4G63 and 4G64 gas/LPG engines. Section 8 is the full overhaul: timing belt, intake manifold, thermostat, exhaust manifold, water pump, rocker arms, camshaft, cylinder head and valves, front case and oil pan, piston and connecting rod, crankshaft, cylinder block. The manual includes a Tightening Method for Permanently Yielding Bolts – that’s crucial on these heads. I’ve seen shops snap bolts because they reused torque-to-yield fasteners. The manual lists the major bolts and nuts with torque values. For the cylinder head bolt sequence and torque, refer to page 00(G)-8-1. That page also lists the special tools required. Don’t try to wing it with a generic torque sequence; these engines have a specific tightening order.

Diesel Engine (4TNE94-SFW) – GROUP 00(D) Torque and Fuel System

If your truck has the 4TNE94-SFW diesel, GROUP 00(D) is your section. It gives you the fuel system layout, cooling system, lubrication system, sensor locations, adjusting operations, periodic maintenance chart, troubleshooting chart, and – this is the gold – the Tightening Torque table. Page 00(D)-1-35 lists the tightening torque for bolts and nuts on that engine. It also includes maintenance standards and special tools. The diesel has a different injection pump setup. Section 7 of GROUP 00(D-T2) covers the fuel injection pump/governor. That’s not something you want to guess on. One wrong timing adjustment and the engine runs away. The manual walks you through inspection and adjustment step by step.

Transaxle and LPG System Coverage

GROUP 06 covers the TA12A1 transaxle. The TOC shows it includes structure and maintenance – that’s a separate book within the binder. For LPG fuel systems, GROUP 02(LP) covers the carbureted version with sections on the vaporizer-regulator, fuel lock-off, and air governor. For the newer MI-4 LP system (GROUP 02(LP-T2)), there’s a full advanced diagnostics section (Section 5) and electrical connections (Section 6). If you’re working on an emission-compliant engine, Section 4-1 of the carbureted group shows the governor and vacuum advance mechanism. These aren’t generic diagrams – they’re Clark-hurth schematics with part numbers and wire colors.

Why OEM Clark-hurth Documentation Matters

I’ve had technicians bring me aftermarket manuals that claim to cover the C15-33 but list wrong spark plug gaps or skip the diesel engine entirely. This manual is factory-produced by Clark-hurth, part number 8036090, Book SM-661. The revision history in the first few pages shows every change from the original release. That’s accountability you don’t get from a third-party PDF. The manual also includes the safety warnings in GROUP SA that are specific to these truck models.
