Description

Caterpillar D11T 2008 Training Manual – OEM Factory Specs

You’re looking at a Caterpillar D11T 2008 Training Manual that came straight out of Finning’s student binder. I’ve seen too many guys tear into a D11T with a Chilton or some aftermarket PDF that leaves out the charge pressure for the torque converter or gives you the wrong direction for the dozer tilt spool. This one doesn’t let that happen. It’s 175 pages of factory-original procedures, written for mechanics who already know how to turn wrenches and need the numbers that keep a 900-horsepower track-type tractor from eating its own transmission on the first pass.

Engine Systems: C32 ACERT Fuel and ORS

The C32 ACERT in this machine is a 12-cylinder V with 32 liters of displacement and 689 kW (923 hp) at 1800 rpm. The manual breaks down the MEUI fuel system and the ORS (Oil Renewal System) on pages that match the actual classroom material. You get the component locations from page 36 forward, and the fuel system routing is laid out so you can trace the lines without guessing which fitting goes where. If you’ve ever had a high-pressure oil leak on an ORS system because you didn’t know the crush washer spec, this is the document that keeps you from ordering a new pump.

Torque Converter and Transmission: Page 73

Page 73 covers the cooling system and the fan hydraulic circuit. That’s where you find the charge pressure spec for the torque converter – something every aftermarket manual either omits or gets wrong. The torque divider output valve (page 89 in the original, but the training manual references it) and the transmission hydraulic control diagram (page 105) are all from Caterpillar’s own engineering drawings. You can Manual Transmission basics if you need background, but for the D11T you want the actual OEM step-by-step for the directional and brake valve on page 112.

Hydraulic Circuits: Dozer Lift, Tilt, and Ripper Control

Hydraulics on a D11T are not a place to wing it. The manual starts component location on page 129 and walks you through the pilot system, the E/H valve manifold, and the dozer lift and float circuit (page 147). There’s a whole section on the dual tilt dozer valve (page 152) and the ripper lift and tilt circuit (page 165). If you’ve ever lost a ripper because the fast-drop valve (page 170) didn’t reseat, you know why the factory procedure matters. The hydraulic schematic at the back lets you trace every line without second-guessing.

Source Authenticity: This Is a Factory Training Manual

This is not a reprint of a third-party summary. It’s the actual 2008 student material from Finning Capacitación, printed for Caterpillar’s own training program. The front matter lists the required reference manuals – SENR9936 for the engine, RENR8224 for the drivetrain, RENR8229 for hydraulics. You get the same diagrams and torque values that Caterpillar technicians use during their certification. If you’ve been burned by aftermarket documentation that had the wrong bolt torque for the final drive housing, you’ll appreciate having the real thing.

Who Needs This Manual?

Shop owners who can’t afford a come-back on a $50,000 transmission rebuild. Field techs who need oil and filter specs that match the maintenance manual (SEBU8135). Equipment operators who want to understand the Advisor panel (page 25) and the monitoring system before something lights up. If you’re a DIY heavy equipment owner and you’ve got a D11T in your yard, this manual is cheaper than one phone call to a Caterpillar dealer parts counter.

Some training manuals are language-restricted – this one is in Spanish, but the technical content (torque specs, hydraulic symbols, pressure settings) is language-independent. You need the numbers, not the translation. And the numbers are all factory-original.

FAQ: Four Questions You’ll Have

Does this manual include engine torque specs for the C32 head bolts?
Yes, the engine section (TEMA 2) covers the C32 ACERT component locations and fuel system. The training manual references the factory test and adjustment manual (SENR9936) for exact torque values, but the diagrams and procedures are from the same source. You’ll find the cooling and fan hydraulic specs on page 73.
Is the manual in English?
No.
Can I use this to rebuild the torque converter?
The manual covers the torque divider output valve operation (page 92) and the transmission hydraulic control (page 107). For a full teardown, you’ll want the separate test and adjustment manual (RENR8224), but this training document gives you the system theory and component identification that keeps you from making a mistake during reassembly. The hydraulic diagrams alone are worth the price if you’ve ever struggled with a stuck directional valve.
Will this fit the D11R?
The D11T shares the same common cab (D8T, D9T, D10T) and is similar in appearance to the D11R, but the C32 ACERT engine and the A4 ECM are specific to the T model. This manual covers the D11T prefix GEB. If you’re working on a D11R, you’ll want the separate training manual for that model. The hydraulic and drivetrain sections may cross-reference, but the engine control strategies are different.

If you’re tired of guessing what the factory really wanted for the fuel system pressure or the dozer tilt spool stroke, Access the Factory Manual and get the original documentation on your bench.
