Description

Caterpillar 950H, 962H, IT62H Electrical Schematic

You strip a wire on a 950H belly guard actuator circuit and suddenly you’re chasing a short that kills the whole panel. Without the factory schematic, you’re guessing which breaker feeds what and hoping the wire colors match the junk in the aftermarket CD-ROM. I’ve been there. That’s why this 50-page OEM electrical schematic exists – so you don’t waste a Saturday swapping relays that were never bad.

Caterpillar 950H 962H IT62H Electrical Schematic – OEM wiring diagram volume 1 cover

Why This Electrical Schematic Matters on the Workbench

Caterpillar built the 950H, 962H, and IT62H with a shared electrical architecture – but that doesn’t mean you can slap a generic schematic on the bench. This OEM document is printed at 48 x 35 inches, so you can actually read the circuit paths without squinting. Page 1 shows the main battery and breaker layout: notice the 15A belly guard breaker (3T-2662) and the actuator switch (157-1364). Wire colors are stamped right on the page – RD-00 for main power, BK-16 for ground, YL-16 for signal. If you’re troubleshooting an intermittent belly guard motor stall, you’ll find the motor connector (2Q-4181) and the cable routing on the same sheet.

What’s Inside: Wiring Color Codes and Breaker Locations

Volume 1 of 2 covers the core chassis circuits. You get the unswitched buss breaker, alternator breaker, hood actuator breaker, and running lamp breaker – all labeled with their amperage and terminal location. The schematic uses Caterpillar’s standard color codes: RD = red, BK = black, BU = blue, YL = yellow, with gauge numbers (e.g., RD-14 is 14 AWG red). The AH-C1 and AH-C2 connector blocks (1552273 and 1552269) are drawn with pin numbers. Need to know which wire ties into the 101-AJ2 circuit? It’s printed on page 3, along with the note “WHEN USED CONNECTS TO ALTERNATOR BREAKER.” No guesswork.

3 Systems That Will Bite You Without Factory Specs

Belly Guard Actuator: The actuator switch (157-1364) sends signal through 838-AH5 YL-16 and 839-AH6 BU-18. If you mix those wires, the motor runs backward or jams. Battery and Breaker Feed: The 12V battery (115-2422) connects through a 15A breaker. Aftermarket drawings often omit the breaker’s specific part number (3T-2662), so you end up with the wrong thermal rating. Shared Ground Circuits: The CBL-KK2 BK-00 ground is shared between the panel relay and Tel. JA23. One loose splice and you lose half your dash functions.

Does This Manual Cover the IT62H?

Yes. The schematic covers the IT62H integrated tool carrier alongside the 950H and 962H. The IT62H uses the same electrical buss but has additional actuator circuits for the coupler and auxiliary hydraulics. The OCR excerpt shows “WHEN USED CONNECTS TO HOOD ACTUATOR BREAKER” – that hood actuator circuit appears on all three models. If you own an IT62H with a belly guard option, you need this sheet to trace the motor wiring back to the 8C-6358 block.

Source Validity: OEM vs Aftermarket Reprints

I tell every green tech: never trust a third-party schematic that re-labels wire colors to “simplify” them. This is a direct scan of Caterpillar’s own engineering print. The document ID on every page – “VOL 1 of 2 (s: 48 inches x 35 inches)” – matches the factory roll. Aftermarket shops will chop the page size to fit a letter binder and lose the breaker detail in the margins. With this 50-page OEM set, you get the full-scale drawing and the original part number cross-references. For more on interpreting CAT wiring, read the Automotive Wiring primer from SAE. FAQ

Can I use this schematic for a 2014 model 950H?
This covers the H-series electrical architecture through about 2011. Later models may have swapped connectors or added emissions harnesses. Check your serial number prefix against the diagrams.
Are the torque values for the breaker terminals included?
No. This is an electrical schematic, not a service manual. Torque specs for battery terminals and breaker studs are in the corresponding service manual – see the Caterpillar 950H 2005 Parts Catalog for bolt details.

Related manuals you might need on the same shelf: Caterpillar 950H 962H IT62H 2011 Electrical Schematic (Volume 2, covers cab and HVAC circuits) and the Caterpillar 950H 962H IT62H 2010 Hydraulic System manual for when you’ve fixed the electrical and still can’t lift the bucket. Don’t waste time with reprints. Access the Factory Manual and get the wiring right the first time.
