Description

CASE IH 1240 Early Riser 2013 Parts Catalog

You ever order a part three times because the aftermarket listing was wrong? I have. And I hate wasting a farmer’s time. That’s why I won’t touch a rebuild without the OEM parts catalog in front of me. This CASE IH 1240 Early Riser 2013 Parts Catalog is the factory-issued book – Print No. 84600480, issued July 2013. 404 pages of exploded diagrams, hardware callouts, and part numbers you can trust. No generic drawings, no “fits similar models” nonsense. Straight from CASE IH to your bench.

General Information: Left, Right, and Common Hardware

Page 2 spells it out. Left and right are defined from the operator’s seat facing forward. You’d be surprised how many guys get that backwards and order mirror-image parts. Also, common hardware (bolts, nuts, washers) isn’t always drawn in the illustrations. The description column lists them right after the main part they mount. Read that column. Don’t assume a bolt is included because you see a hole. The service part you order does not include unlisted hardware. Order it separately if needed.

Parts Catalog: Why OEM Beats Aftermarket

Aftermarket parts catalogs sometimes use generic diagrams that merge multiple model years. This one doesn’t. Every illustration corresponds to a specific assembly on the 1240 Early Riser planter. If you need a seed tube or a gauge wheel arm, the figure shows you exactly which parts make up that group. The part numbering system is single-item numeration – each part gets one number. You order that number, you get that part. No cross-referencing a third-party chart. When I see a parts clerk pull up a third-party database, I cringe. Use the factory catalog. Period.

What Does “Common Hardware Not Illustrated” Mean?

It means don’t panic when you see a clamp but no bolt in the drawing. The hardware is listed in the text line following the assembly. For example, if a bracket is held on by two M10 bolts and lock washers, those will appear in the description column under the bracket part number. The illustration is there to show you what the assembly looks like and to help you identify the correct service part. The hardware is assumed to be common and stocked separately. Always check the column before you place an order.

404 Pages: What You Get

This catalog covers the entire 1240 Early Riser planter – frame, row units, markers, drive systems, hydraulic components, electrical harnesses, and more. Each section groups related parts. The index at the front gets you to the right page fast. I keep a printed copy in the shop and a PDF on the tablet. When a customer brings in a 1240 with a busted row unit, I flip to the row-unit section, find the part number, and order it that afternoon. No guessing. No returns.

Ordering Parts: Avoid the Headache

You want to know the real cost of a wrong part? It’s the labor of waiting, the inconvenience of a second trip to the dealer, and the downtime of a planter that should be in the field. This catalog eliminates all of that. Every part number in this book was verified by CASE IH engineering. The illustrations are updated to the 2013 production level. If you work on any Early Riser from that era, this is the only parts catalog you need. And if you’re comparing it to the CASE IH 7210, 7220 Parts Catalog – Factory Specs or the CASE IH JX 70U, MX 80C, 90C, 100C, MX 100 Parts Catalog, the same OEM logic applies – no shortcuts, no reprints.

For reference on how OEM documentation fits into the broader automotive industry, see the Automotive Industry Overview. And if you want the technical background on the internal components, the Internal Combustion Engine page gives you the theory. But here in the shop, you need the part numbers. You need the exploded views. You need the factory word on what goes where.

If you are tired of chasing wrong parts and losing billable hours, access the Factory Manual. Get the OEM parts catalog now.

Does this catalog include part numbers for the entire 1240 Early Riser planter?
Yes. 404 pages cover every assembly – frame, row units, markers, drive, hydraulics, electrical. Each part has a unique number.
Is this the same as a service manual?
No. A parts catalog shows exploded views and part numbers. It does not contain repair procedures, torque specs, or troubleshooting.
Can I use this to find aftermarket substitutes?
Not recommended. The catalog lists OEM CASE IH parts. Aftermarket parts may differ in dimensions, materials, or fit. If you attempt a substitute, you are on your own – the manufacturer didn’t test it. Stick with OEM numbers from this book and you will get exactly what left the factory.
Does the catalog include hardware like bolts and nuts?
Yes, but read page 2 carefully. Common hardware may not be illustrated; it is listed in the description column right after the main part. Order those separately if not included with the assembly.
