Front Axle (Two Wheel Drive) – Spindles and Tie Rod

The front axle section on page 6 covers the main member, front support, spindles, tie rod, and toe-in adjustment. Wheel bearing preload is specified – use a dial indicator, not a feeler gauge. Torque values for the spindle nut are given. I’ve seen guys overtighten and ruin the bearings. Follow the sequence; the manual doesn’t leave room for shortcuts.

Brakes – Bleeding and Cylinder Overhaul

Brake bleeding procedure is on paragraph 185. The power brake valve adjustment (183,184) and cylinder overhaul (192) are covered. If your pedal goes to the floor, don’t just add fluid. You need to bleed the system in the correct order – the manual spells it out. Cylinder bore specs and seal part numbers are listed. Use OEM seals, not generic O-rings.

Fuel System – Injection Pump Timing

For fuel system work, the manual covers bleeding (73), filters & lines (71), injection pump removal (74), injector nozzle (78), and timing (75). The timing procedure requires a dial indicator and the correct adapter. The manual gives the static timing setting in degrees and the pump timing mark alignment. Torque for the ring gear bolts is critical – 165 ft-lbs on a 2090, for example (check your specific model). I’ve seen failures from under-torquing.

Hydraulic System – Testing and Valve Adjustment
