Description
Audi A6 2000 Service Manual – Body Repairs
If you’re planning to straighten an A6 unibody or weld in a new front longitudinal member, you need the Audi A6 2000 Service Manual – not a third-party rewrite, not a generic crash guide. I’ve seen too many techs cut a floor pan 10 mm off because they guessed the locating hole. Audi’s engineering tolerances aren’t suggestions. This 16-page booklet is the factory-issued body repair supplement for the C5 A6 (1998 model year, published October 2000). It covers exactly what you need to keep the structure safe and the gaps consistent.

Vehicle Identification Data: Why Start Here
Section 1 of this manual walks you through locating the type plate and VIN, and reading the vehicle data sticker. Before you cut anything, you confirm you’re working on an A6 with the correct body variant – front-wheel drive, quattro, or V8. Page 1 shows exactly where the data sticker sits. If you’ve got a quattro and start using front-wheel-drive floor group dimensions, you’ll be welding in the wrong floor panel. That’s a four-hour mistake.
Body Dimensions and Panel Gaps
The manual gives you body dimensions for the floor group (front, centre, rear) and separate entries for quattro and front-wheel drive. Section 2.4 and 2.5 differentiate the rear floor for each drivetrain. You’ll also find body panel gap specs in section 3 – front, centre, rear, Avant. Door openings have their own tolerances. After a collision you need these numbers to decide whether to pull or replace. Without them you’re guessing.
Aluminum Panels and Bonded Joints
Audi used aluminum on some A6 panels. Section 4 identifies which panels are aluminium and which are steel. Welding steel to aluminium with the wrong filler is a corrosion ticket. Section 10 covers bonded joints, including spot-welded bonded joints and repair methods for replacing body parts. The manual shows you how to inspect a bonded joint and when to cut it out. Use these procedures or the bond fails at the next impact.
7 Systems Covered – From Straightening Jig to Foam Cavities
The manual breaks body repair into seven logical groups: technical data, front body (section 50), centre body (section 51), rear body, plus chapters on foam-filled cavities, laser welding, and corrosion protection. For the A6 V8 there are dedicated longitudinal member renewal procedures (sections 5 and 6 in chapter 50). If you’re pulling the front end, you need the straightening jig supplements for quattro, V8, and Quattro Allroad (section 11).
Front Longitudinal Member Renewal – Factory Procedure
Section 50, chapter 3, walks you through full renewal of the front longitudinal member. It specifies cutting locations, replacement part numbers, and welding sequence. Partial renewal is covered in chapter 4. For the A6 V8, chapters 5 and 6 give separate procedures because the V8 subframe uses different pickups. You won’t find these specifics in any aftermarket manual. This is the document Audi’s own body shop uses.
Who Should Use This Manual
If you’re a collision repair technician or a serious DIYer with a MIG welder and a restraint system tripod, this manual is for you. It does not cover engine, transmission, or suspension. If you need wiring diagrams for that 2000 A6, see the Audi A6 2000 Wiring Diagram or the Audi A6 1998 Wiring Diagram for earlier models. For the 2001 refresh, check the Audi A6 2001 System Wiring Diagram. That said, body repair is structural – if you’ve never welded a unibody joint, take the Manual Transmission (just kidding – take a welding class). The Automotive Industry Overview has some safety basics, but the manual itself is your source.
Original OEM Print – Not a Copy
This manual was issued by AUDI AG’s Service Department. The OCR excerpt includes the copyright warning – “Copying for private or commercial purposes, in part or in whole, is not permitted unless authorised by AUDI AG.” That’s how you know it’s not a reprint or a scan of a scan. Third-party “repair manuals” for the C5 A6 often skip the bonded joint inspection steps and the quattro-specific floor dimensions. This 16-page PDF gives you exactly what Audi released to its dealerships.
- Does this manual cover the 2.7T engine removal?
- No. This is a body repair supplement only – sections 00, 50, 51, 53. Engine and drivetrain work require a separate service manual.
- Can I use these dimensions for a 2001 A6 (C5 facelift)?
- The manual covers 1998–2000 A6 models. The 2001 facelift had different front-end sheet metal and revised door openings. For a 2001, reference the 2001 supplement – not this one. Using these dimensions on a facelift car will result in misaligned panel gaps and potential structural mismatch.
You’ve got the part numbers, the cutting lines, the welding sequence. Now get off the fence. Access the Factory Manual before you make a cut.
