Description
Ammann AV12-2, AV16-2, AV20-2, AV16-2K 2006 Technical Manual

If you are tearing into an Ammann roller and need the real specs—not some third-party rehash—this is the file you want on your bench. I have seen too many guys guess at hydraulic pressures or skip the ROPS inspection because they could not find the right page. That is how rollers end up with cracked frames and busted seals. The Ammann AV12-2, AV16-2, AV20-2, AV16-2K 2006 Technical Manual is the factory document, 52 pages, straight from Ammann Schweiz AG. No aftermarket condensation. No missing torque values.
52 Pages for the Ammann AV12-2, AV16-2, AV20-2, AV16-2K Technical Manual
This is not a reprint. The manual covers four models—AV12-2, AV16-2, AV20-2, and the AV16-2K—on a single 52-page PDF. You get the identification plate location, scope of delivery, transport procedures, and joint protection instructions. The preface, dated January 11, 2006, tells you what the manual expects you to know. For serial numbers starting at 10,000. If your machine falls outside that range, call Ammann. But for most field units from that era, this is your document.
The TOC runs from page 2 through page 106. Every chapter is laid out in logical order: safety, operation, options, maintenance, hydraulic layout, wiring diagrams, technical specs. No fluff. Just the raw data you need to keep the roller running and avoid a liability lawsuit.
Safety First: Roll-Over Bar and Noise Levels
Pages 19–27 are dedicated to safety. I have seen crews skip the roll-over bar (ROPS) inspection because they thought it was optional. Page 21 covers ROPS requirements and inspection intervals. Page 24 lists noise levels—important if you are running this thing in a residential area and need to comply with local ordinances. Page 26 hits safety during maintenance. Read it before you jack the machine. The manual does not assume you know what you are doing. It tells you.
Also on page 23: safety labels. If your labels are faded, this page shows exactly where each sticker goes and what it warns about. Order replacements based on the diagram.
Hydraulic Diagram and Wiring Diagrams: The Real Value
Hydraulics on these rollers use a simple layout, but when you lose vibration or the sprinkler stops, you need the schematic. Pages 89–92 give you the full hydraulic diagram for AV12-20 and a separate diagram for the AV16K. Legend included. No need to guess which line is pressure or return.
The wiring diagrams take pages 94–104. You get multifunction display wiring, engine start/stop circuit, emergency stop / oil cooler / diesel pump, sprinkler control, vibration circuit, horn and indicators, lights, options, and Loxam. Each diagram has a key. If you are chasing an electrical gremlin, start at page 94 and work through. I recommend printing the relevant pages and taping them to your toolbox.
What About the Yanmar Engine Maintenance?
The manual specifically covers the Yanmar engine used in these models. Page 63 is dedicated to Yanmar engine maintenance. The inspections overview on page 66 tells you what to check and at what intervals: engine oil level, coolant, fuel tank, hydraulic oil tank, sprinkler, scraper. Page 67 is for engine oil and coolant checks. Page 68 covers fuel and hydraulic tanks. You also get a full lubricant table on page 74 and tightening torques on page 76. Torque values are in Nm—convert to lb-ft using a standard conversion factor if your torque wrench reads imperial. I keep a chart on the wall.
Winterization steps are on page 77. If you operate in freezing conditions, do not skip page 78 (water tank and sprinkler frost hazard). Draining diesel is on page 79. Draining and topping up engine oil is on page 81. All factory-specified.
Torque Specs and Lubricant Table on Page 76
Page 76 lists consumables and tightening torques. This is the page you will tab and use on every rebuild. It tells you what oil goes in the hydraulic system, what grease for the bearings, and the torque for critical fasteners. Do not guess. Use the spec. I have seen rollers lose a wheel because someone used a generic torque value from the internet. That is not happening with this manual on your bench.
For additional factory documentation, check the Ammann AV12-2 AV16-2 AV20-2 AV1-2 AV2-2 2006 Workshop Manual for more in-depth repair procedures. If you need specs for the Yanmar engine in other Ammann equipment, the Ammann Yanmar B15-37, B17-3, B18 Technical Manual – OEM Factory Specs covers those power units. For compact excavators from the same era, see the Ammann Yanmar ViO17, ViO20-3, ViO25-3, ViO30/35-3, ViO50U 2008 Operators Manual.
Understand that this is a technical manual, not an operator’s manual for a Manual Transmission vehicle. If you are looking for automotive transmission repair, that is a different document. This roller uses hydrostatic drive. For general knowledge about Manual Transmission systems, external sources may help, but for this machine, trust the Ammann book.
- Does this manual cover the AV16-2K specifically?
- Yes. The AV16-2K is listed in the title and covered throughout.
- Can I use this manual for earlier model years like 2004–2005?
- The manual is dated 2006 and references serial numbers from 10,000 onward. If your machine has an earlier serial number, some specs—especially wiring or hydraulic configurations—may differ. The identification plate page (10) will tell you if your serial number matches. For earlier units, contact Ammann or look for a supplement. Do not assume everything is identical; check the component overview on page 32 against your machine.
You have the factory data now. Stop working from photocopies and internet forums. Access the Factory Manual and keep it with the roller. Your rig, your safety, your reputation.
