Description

AM General H1 1999 Parts Catalog

If you are wrenching on an H1 and you do not have the factory parts catalog, you are wasting time and money. I have seen guys try to match parts by eyeballing or using aftermarket lookup tools—then they end up with a steering damper that does not fit or a brake caliper piston seal that leaks. This catalog from AM General is the only source for verified part numbers, exploded diagrams, and cross-references for the H1 model years 1999-2000. 695 pages. No guesswork.

This is not a reprint. It is the original OEM Parts Catalog, produced by AM General LLC in Mishawaka, Indiana. Every bolt, hose, sensor, and gasket is listed with its factory part number. You need a new fuel injector line? The catalog shows you the exact assembly. You are rebuilding the cooling system? You will find the radiator, fan clutch, and shroud in Section 4 with the right fasteners.

AM General H1 1999 Parts Catalog: What You Get

Fourteen sections. Every system broken down into sub-groups with parts illustrations. Look at Section 2 – Engine. It covers the camshaft, timing chain, cylinder head, crankshaft, turbocharger assembly, oil pan and pump, and even the vacuum pump with serpentine belt routing. Need the part number for a crankcase depression regulator valve? It is there. Section 3 – Fuel, Emissions & Exhaust – gives you the injection pump, lines, and exhaust manifold heat shield. Section 4 – Cooling – lists the water pump, thermostat housing, and hoses. Section 5 – Transmission/Transfer Case – includes the shift linkage, seals, and transfer case components. Section 6 – Wheels/Tires & CTIS – covers the central tire inflation system valves and hoses. Section 7 – Brake – shows master cylinder, calipers, pads, and hydraulic lines. Section 8 – Steering – gearbox, linkage, pump. Section 9 – Axles/Suspension & Frame – torque rods, control arms, springs. Section 10 – Body – panels, glass, hardware. Section 11 – HVAC – heater core, A/C compressor. Section 12 – Electrical – wiring harnesses, alternator, starter, switches. Section 13 – Accessories. And an index.

Engine Group: Camshaft, Timing Chain, and Related Parts

This is not a generic listing. The engine section (starting page 2-2) breaks down the 6.5L diesel V8 into 16 sub-groups. You get exploded views showing how each part fits, plus the factory part number and quantity. For example, the crankcase cover assembly and rocker cover group lists the gasket set, bolts, and cover themselves. If you need the oil filter adapter and line fittings, they are on page 2-18. Do not rely on aftermarket catalogs that merge multiple years into one confusing table. This catalog is for the 1999-2000 H1 only.

Fuel, Emissions, and Exhaust: Section 3 Coverage

Section 3 covers the Fuel system from tank to injectors. The injection pump, fuel lines, water separator, and the lift pump are all called out with part numbers. The emissions section includes the EGR valve, vacuum lines, and canister. Exhaust manifolds, turbocharger outlet pipes, and the muffler are listed. If you are dealing with a fuel leak or a restricted exhaust, you can order the correct pipe or gasket the first time.

3 Systems You Cannot Afford to Misdiagnose

The CTIS system, the brake system, and the electrical system on an H1 are not like a regular truck. Get a part wrong in the Central Tire Inflation System and you will have a leak that drops tire pressure on the highway. The brake section shows you the exact master cylinder bore size and seal kit. The electrical section lists the relays, fuse blocks, and even the battery cables. For battery specifications, see Automotive Battery for general background, but for the H1 you need the OEM cable assembly. The parts catalog has it.

Get the Right Part Numbers – Why OEM Matters

Aftermarket parts catalogs for the H1 are frequently wrong. I have seen listings for an “H1” part that actually came from a civilian Hummer with a different engine. This catalog was printed by AM General in 1999 and covers the military-spec commercial Hummer. Every part number is traceable. If you cross-reference a part to the Automotive Industry Overview, you will see why factory documentation is the only reliable source. For related manuals, check the AM General DMAX 2006 Parts Catalog if you work on later models, the AM General Commercial Hummer 2002 Service Manual for repair procedures, and the AM General HUMMER 1999 Service Manual for service specs.

Does this catalog include torque specifications?
No. This is a parts catalog, not a service manual. It gives you part numbers and exploded views, not torque values or repair steps.
Can I use this catalog to identify parts for a 1998 H1?
Some parts overlap, but AM General made changes between model years. If you use this 1999 catalog for a 1998, you may order a component that does not fit. Cross-reference the part number with your truck’s VIN and the General Information section (page 1-1) which lists model year applicability. For example, the engine crankshaft assembly changed in 1999. Section 2-6 shows the updated part. The 1998 used a different damper. Always verify with the catalog specific to your year.

Bottom line: If you own an H1 and you are ordering parts, get this catalog. It saves you the headache of returning wrong parts and the cost of downtime. Open it on your tablet or print sections for the shop. Access the Factory Manual now and start ordering with confidence that the part number is correct.
