From page 147 the manual gives you a complete list of connectors – each one indexed with its part number, cavity count, and wire entry orientation. This is the section that separates OEM from the junk you find on forums. Need to verify the CAN bus termination on an FM12? The list tells you which connector pair carries the twisted pair and where the 120-ohm resistor lives. Does This Manual Cover the FM9, FM12, and FH12?

Yes – this is the Version2 release for all three truck lines (TSP175664). The manual covers the 2002 model year trucks produced up to August 2002. It supersedes the earlier TSP169444. If your truck is a 2001 or early 2002, this still applies – but check the foreword for any supplement bulletins. The wiring covers all engine variants offered in those chassis: D9, D12, and D13. This is Release 02, Group 37, TSP175664, dated August 2002. It is the final factory release for the 2002 model year trucks.

I have an FM9 with a custom body – will the wiring diagram still apply?

The document covers the chassis and cab wiring only – not body builder add-ons. The component wiring diagrams show the truck-side connectors for the firewall pass-through and the tail lamp harness. For bodybuilder electrical interfaces you’ll need the Volvo Body Builder Manual (separate publication). The factory diagram will give you the correct power distribution and ground paths up to those connectors. I’ve used it to troubleshoot a dump truck PTO circuit on an FM9 – the PTO engagement solenoid was getting switched power from the wrong relay because the body builder tapped a fuse that wasn’t rated for continuous duty. The factory diagram showed the correct relay location and wire gauge. Saved a melted harness.

You need the real OEM wiring diagram for these trucks – not a generic schematic that leaves out the ground index and the connector list. Access the Factory Manual and keep it on your shop tablet. You’ll use it every time an electrical gremlin walks through the door.
