Description
Toyota Camry Workshop Manual

If you’ve ever tried fixing a Camry with a generic repair book and ended up with a leaking transmission or a check engine light that won’t go away, you know the problem. This is the real deal – a factory Toyota Camry Workshop Manual for 2002–2006 models, 1554 pages of OEM procedures straight from the engineers who designed the car. No aftermarket translations, no “close enough” torque values. Every number in this manual was signed off by Toyota before it ever left the plant.
The manual follows SAE J2008 format. That means the repair process is broken into three stages: diagnosis, removal/installation/replacement, and final inspection. The OCR excerpt shows exactly how component drawings label torque specs, non-reusable parts, and grease points. For example, page 2 gives you a torque spec illustration with values like 15 N·m (155 kgf·cm, 11 ft·lbf) for the brake cylinder – that’s the kind of precision you need when a bolt decides whether the car stops or doesn’t.
Engine Mechanical: Cylinder Head Torque and Timing Belt
This section covers the 1MZ/3MZ and 2AZ engines separately. Cylinder head removal for the 2AZ starts at page 14-108; for the 1MZ/3MZ it’s page 14-254. The torque sequence is shown in the component drawing – you get the order and the foot-pounds. Timing belt replacement for the 1MZ/3MZ is covered, and the chain-driven 2AZ gets its own chain inspection procedure. Valve clearance adjustment specs are listed for both engine families. If you skip the step that says “replace the cylinder head gasket” without checking the torque, you’re doing it wrong.
Automatic Transmission U250E: What’s Inside?
The transmission section breaks down the U250E and U151E units. You get valve body removal, torque converter clutch and drive plate inspection, revolution sensor replacement, and front differential oil seal procedures. The transmission fluid check and replacement steps are there – including the exact fluid type and capacity. Park/neutral position switch adjustment is on page 40-7. The shift lock system and floor shift assembly are covered in separate files (40-54.pdf, 40-64.pdf). If you’re swapping a transmission or chasing a shift problem, you need this.
Brake System: Bleeding and Actuator Diagnostics
Brake bleeding procedure is on page 32-58 – not just a generic “pump and bleed” but the correct sequence for the Camry’s diagonal split system. The brake booster and master cylinder sections (pages 32-29/32-30) include vacuum check specs. For cars with VSC, the brake actuator section (page 32-63) has the bleeding procedure for the actuator itself. Speed sensor, skid control sensor, yaw rate sensor – all covered. The rear drum brake section is there for base models, and rear disc for higher trims.
Adjust the Clutch Pedal Correctly
Clutch section includes the clutch start switch (pages 42-20/42-21), clutch pedal adjustment (page 42-7), master cylinder, release cylinder, and accumulator. The pedal height and free play specs are critical – I’ve seen guys replace a clutch because the pedal wasn’t adjusted and the release bearing never disengaged. This manual gives you the exact measurement in inches.
Cooling System: Water Pump and Thermostat for 2AZ and 1MZ/3MZ
Water pump replacement for the 2AZ is a separate procedure from the 1MZ/3MZ. The radiator removal for the 2AZ is on page 16-13, for the 1MZ/3MZ on page 16-34. Thermostat location and coolant capacity (with mixing ratio) are listed. The cooling fan circuit (2AZ on page 16-5) includes the relay check and connector pinouts. If you overheat because you used a generic coolant spec, that’s on you.

- Q: Does this manual cover all trim levels of the 2002-2006 Toyota Camry?
- A: Yes, it covers LE, SE, XLE, and hybrid models (if applicable) with both 4-cylinder and V6 engines.
- Q: How detailed is the transmission rebuild section?
- A: The transmission section (U250E/U151E) includes valve body disassembly, torque converter inspection, shift lock system, and floor shift cable adjustment. For the U250E, you get the front differential oil seal replacement and revolution sensor specs. The procedures are step-by-step with torque values for every bolt. I’ve used this manual to rebuild a U250E in my own shop – it covers everything from removing the transaxle to the final fill procedure. If you’re planning a full rebuild, you’ll also need the special service tools listed in the Preparation section, but the manual tells you which ones.
