Vibratory Drum Drive: SP-848D vs SP-848DH Differences

Two different drum drive configurations. The SP-848D uses a different planetary and hydraulic motor than the SP-848DH. Mix up the parts and you’ll be ordering a new motor. The manual separates them on pages 20 (SP-848D ONLY) and 24 (SP-848DH ONLY). The Planetary Reducer section on page 32 covers both, but you need to verify the input spline count against the parts list on page 144. I’ve seen a guy install a DH reducer on a D model because the overall length looked the same – the spline count was off by three teeth. Cost him a new shaft. Don’t be that guy. Any third-party manual that reprints this thing will have torque values that are close, but close doesn’t hold when you’re torquing a hydraulic manifold bolt into aluminum. This original PDF comes from the Rexworks (now Terexlift) factory – same specs the dealer techs use. The margin notes from the original engineer are still there. For example, the brake assembly on page 132 lists the wheel-end bolt torque in foot-pounds with a note about thread locking compound. Aftermarket versions often leave out the compound requirement. The gear case assembly page 28 includes a torque spec for the cover bolts and the input flange nut. The exact values are printed on the page – not listed here because guessing is how you strip threads. Buy the manual, get the number. The spec is in foot-pounds and it’s the only one you should use.
