That covers all the sensors, solenoids, and controller wiring.

Engine Section 51: Disassembly and Torque Specs

Section 51 runs from general engine information through inspection, adjustment, troubleshooting, and full disassembly and reassembly. You get the lubrication system, cooling system, fuel injection pump and governor, turbocharger (disassembly, inspection, reassembly), starting motor, alternator, and electric wiring. Section 51.12 gives service standards – wear limits, clearances. 51.13 is the tightening torque for bolts and nuts. Those are the numbers you need when you’re putting a cylinder head back on or torquing the main bearing caps. Aftermarket manuals often fudge these. This one doesn’t.

What Torque Values Are Listed?

Section 51.13 covers tightening torque for bolts and nuts across the engine assembly. For critical fasteners – connecting rods, cylinder head, flywheel – the factory spec is right there. No having to guess between “tight” and “very tight.” You get pound-feet for every threaded fastener in the engine. For hydraulic fittings, the schematics in section 71 don’t list torque per fitting, but the general bolt torque chart applies to the mounting brackets. Always use the spec from the manual, not your arm.

13 Subsections in the Engine Chapter Alone

The engine section isn’t a skimpy overview. 51.1 through 51.13 cover every subsystem. General specs, inspection and adjustment (valve clearances, injection timing), troubleshooting (won’t start, low power, smoke), then the teardown procedures. Lube system includes oil pump and filter specs. Cooling system covers thermostat and water pump. Fuel injection pump has governor adjustments. Turbocharger gets its own disassembly sequence. Starting motor and alternator have test procedures and rebuild steps. Electric wiring diagram ties the engine harness into the chassis harness. Service standards give wear limits for pistons, rings, bearings. That’s depth you can work with.

OEM Documentation vs Aftermarket Copies

This is the original New Holland Kobelco print – same as the binder in a dealership service bay. Aftermarket manuals often copy the diagrams poorly, leave out the safety precautions, and sometimes reverse pin numbers on connectors. The introduction in this manual explicitly states it’s written for a skilled technician and includes a safety section (page 2-3) that tells you to lower equipment before servicing, support hydraulic cylinders, and never clean a machine while it’s in motion. You don’t get that from a shady PDF. If you want a manual that matches the parts catalog and the operation manual, this is it.
