Description
Mazda Mazda6 Training Manual

I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years, ASE Master for most of them. What gets under my skin is opening a manual that says ‘refer to factory specifications’ without printing the actual number. This Mazda Mazda6 Training Manual came straight from Mazda Motor Europe GmbH’s training department. It’s not a chilton reprint or a haynes rewrite. It’s the same booklet the factory techs read. That means the valve clearance spec, cylinder head torque sequence, and PCM wiring diagram are printed exactly as Mazda released them.
That matters.
Engine Mechanics: Valve Mechanism and Cylinder Head
Section 01 opens with the cylinder head cover, then dives into the valve mechanism. You’ll find the lubrication circuit diagram, the electronic throttle control layout, and the ignition system wiring. The generator design and its electrical diagram are on the same page as the charging system specs. For the gasoline engine, the manual covers the PCM connector harness-side view, throttle position sensor voltage characteristics, and both heated oxygen sensors. Every wiring diagram shows the circuit path from the PCM to the actuator. No generic ‘check continuity’ – you get the actual pin numbers.
If you are working on the diesel variant, the manual switches to pistons, cylinder head torque values, and the lubrication system with oil dilution calculation. The cooling system parts location and intake-air system including the turbocharger and manifold absolute pressure sensor are in the same section. This is the kind of detail that keeps you from pulling a head twice because the torque spec was wrong.
Fuel System and Diesel Diagnostics – Common Rail and DPF
The fuel system section covers the common rail, injector correction factors, and the injection amount learning function. For the diesel particulate filter, you get the DPF differential pressure sensor location, regeneration control logic, and soot amount calculation. The manual walks you through replacing injectors, the high-pressure pump, and the EGR valve. It also includes the on-board diagnostic system with self-test, PID monitor, and simulation test. If you see a DPF indicator light, the regeneration process and intervals are spelled out right there.
Does This Manual Cover Suspension, Brakes, and Transmission?
Short answer: yes. Section 02 covers suspension features including tire dimensions, wheel dimensions, temporary spare tire specs, and winter tire chains. Section 04 details front and rear disc brakes. Section 05 covers the G35M-R transaxle with cross-sectional view, triple cone synchronizer, and shift mechanism operation. The manual does not skip the small stuff like oil dipstick markings or oil cooler parts location. Every subsection has its own specifications table.
274 Pages of Factory-Certified Information
At 274 pages, this training manual is dense. It is not a ‘quick reference’ guide – it is the reference. The general information section gives you the VIN code breakdown, engine/transaxle combinations, and scheduled maintenance intervals for Europe. That last part matters because Euro-spec Mazda6 models have different service intervals than US or JDM versions. If you are working on an import, you need that data. The manual also includes the restraints section (section 08) and body & accessories (section 09).
Source Authenticity – Why OEM Training Manuals Matter
I have seen aftermarket manuals misprint the crankshaft position sensor air gap by a millimeter. That one millimeter costs you rebuild time. This manual was printed by Mazda for training classes. The illustration of the TP sensor voltage characteristics, the PCM connector pinout, the wiring diagram continuity – all of it came from the same engineers who designed the car. You want that traceability. For related factory documentation, check out the Mazda Mazda6 2002 Workshop Manual or the Mazda Mazda6 2002 Training Manual for earlier model years. If you work on other Mazda platforms, the Mazda Tribute 2005 Training Manual – Factory SRS Documentation covers the restraint system in similar depth.
For a broader look at how OEMs structure their training materials, Automotive Industry Overview and Automotive Industry Overview provide context.
- Is this manual for the gasoline or diesel Mazda6?
- Both. The manual splits the engine section into gasoline (Mechanics a) and diesel (Mechanics b) with separate fuel system, emission, and charging system specifications.
- Does it include torque values?
- Yes, but they are embedded in the specifications tables rather than listed on a single page. You will find them in the lubrication, cooling, and cylinder head subsections.
- Can I use this manual to replace a PCM?
- Yes. The engine control system section includes the PCM connector diagram, wiring diagrams, and a replacement procedure with self-test instructions.
- What about the DPF regeneration – is it explained?
- Thoroughly. The manual covers soot amount calculation, regeneration process, regeneration intervals, and manual regeneration service procedure. It also explains the DPF differential pressure sensor diagnostics and exhaust gas temperature sensor readings.
If you want to stop guessing and start torquing to factory specs, this is the document. Mazda made it for their own techs. Now you can have it on your bench. Access the Factory Manual and put it on your tablet or print the pages you need for the job. You will not find a clearer explanation of the Mazda6 engine, cylinder head, or valve system anywhere else.

Five stars! It is very easy to read on my iPad without losing quality. Contains clear schematics for Mazda. I will recommend this shop to others.
