Description

Land Rover Discovery 2002 Electrical Schematic

If you are chasing an electrical ghost on a 2002 Discovery, a scanner and a test light will only get you so far. Without the factory Land Rover Discovery 2002 Electrical Schematic, you are working blind. I have seen guys replace three Body Control Units chasing a door lock fault that turned out to be a corroded earth splice. That time and money goes nowhere. This manual – 160 pages of OEM circuit diagrams – shows you exactly where every wire runs, what color it is, and which fuse or relay feeds it. No aftermarket interpretation. Land Rover printed it for their own dealers in 2002.

Land Rover Discovery 2002 Electrical Schematic OEM factory manual cover

Power Distribution: Fuse Box Layout

Chapter 1 of the document covers Power Distribution. They split it into two fuse boxes: engine compartment and passenger compartment. Each one gets its own set of pages – page 6 for the engine bay layout, page 10 for the cabin box. The diagrams show component locations, fuse ratings, and relay assignments. If you have a crank-no-start on a Td5, start at the engine compartment fuse box. Check fuse 9 (ECM) and relay R3 (fuel pump). The manual gives you the circuit path without guessing.

Engine Management: Td5 and V8

Under “ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM” you get separate schematics for the Td5 diesel and the V8 petrol. The Td5 section covers injector drive, glow plug control, and the ECM power supply. The V8 pages include throttle position sensor, ignition coils, and fuel injector circuits. Both engines share the same color codes – look at page 3 for the full color key: B = black, G = green, R = red, etc. That color code table is the same one Land Rover used in every 2002 Discovery. If you see a ‘U’ wire, it is blue. No translation errors.

Charging and Starting: Td5 vs V8

Section 15 covers Charging and Starting. It splits between Td5 (page 50) and V8 (page 52). The Td5 uses a 120-amp alternator with a separate regulator sense wire; the V8 runs a 150-amp unit with a different pinout. If your battery light stays on and you swapped the alternator already, check the wiring diagram for the exciter circuit. I have seen aftermarket reman alternators come with the wrong connector – the factory schematic tells you which pin is which.

Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) and ABS

The manual includes full schematics for Active Cornering Enhancement (ACE) and the SLABS system. ACE uses a hydraulic pump, pressure sensors, and a control module that talks to the steering angle sensor. If the ACE warning lamp is on and the pump runs constantly, the diagram shows the ground path at earth point C0187. For ABS, the diagram shows the four wheel speed sensors, the modulator solenoid circuits, and the power feed to the SLABS ECU. You can pin-out the connector without lifting the carpet.

Who Needs This Manual

Home garage guys, independent shop owners, and Land Rover enthusiasts who want to fix electrical problems without replacing parts at random. If you have a 2002 Discovery Series II with a Td5 or V8, this manual is for you. The wiring hasn’t changed dramatically, but the connector locations and pin numbers are year-specific. Do not use a 2003 schematic – the HVAC wiring changed. This is the exact 2002 document.

Source Authenticity: OEM vs Aftermarket

This is a scan of the original Land Rover publication part number LRL 0553ENX. No third-party condensation. No redrawn diagrams where someone moved a ground symbol. The PDF bookmarks match the printed table of contents: How to Use the Circuit Diagrams, Power Distribution, Earth Distribution, Anti-Theft Alarm, Central Door Locking, Windows, Sunroof, Door Mirrors, Seats, Heated Seats, Diagnostic Socket, Body Control Unit, Charging and Starting, Engine Management System, Cooling Fans, Shift Interlock, Cruise Control, Electronic Automatic Transmission, ACE, SLABS, ABS, SRS, Air Conditioning, Heater, Fuel Burning Heater, Heated Front Screen, Heated Rear Window, Wipers and Washers, Exterior Lamps, Interior Lamps, Interior Illumination, Instruments, Clock, Horn, Accessory Socket, Cigar Lighter, Audio Systems (Base/Mid/High Line), Navigation Systems, Header Joints, Splices and Centre Taps, Park Distance Control, Trailer Socket. Every section is in the file. If you need the splice location for the trailer socket, it is there.

Does this manual cover the engine wiring for the V8?
Yes. Section 20 includes four separate pages for the V8 engine management system. Covers fuel injectors, ignition coils, throttle actuator, and ECM power/ground.
What about the factory color codes?
Page 3 lists all 14 color codes with their two-letter abbreviations. Black=B, Green=G, Red=R, White=W, Yellow=Y, Blue=U, etc. The diagrams use these codes.
Can I use this diagnostic socket diagram to bypass PATS?
No. The manual shows the pinout of the diagnostic socket (Section 10) but does not include PATS programming. Use it to verify K-line and power supply to the scan tool.
Does the ACE system schematic include the pressure sensor connectors?
Yes. The ACE section shows the three pressure sensors, the pump relay, and the ground paths. Pin numbers are printed on the diagram. Use it to check continuity without removing the harness.

You need this if you are rebuilding a 2002 Discovery or chasing electrical faults. The factory Land Rover book. I have used it myself in the shop. Do not waste time with aftermarket wiring diagrams that show a generic 12V system. Get the actual 2002 OEM schematic. Access the Factory Manual now.
