Kubota B6200HST, B7200HST 1991 Workshop Manual

Kubota B6200HST B7200HST 1991 Workshop Manual cover

I’ve seen a lot of hydrostatic transmissions come into my shop with burnt valves and scored pistons because somebody thought they could wing it on the charge pressure. A Kubota B6200HST or B7200HST tractor isn’t the place to guess. This 1991 Kubota Workshop Manual is the factory book — 137 pages of what you actually need. The Mechanism section covers the hydrostatic transmission from pump to motor to the control linkage. Page 3 has the specs: injection timing 20 to 22 degrees before TDC, injection pressure 1991 to 2131 psi. That’s data you trust because it came off the line in Osaka, not from a third-party reprint.

Hydrostatic Transmission: Pump, Motor, and Oil Flow

The manual breaks the hydrostatic drive into four subsections: structure, pump and motor, oil flow and valves, and operation. If you’ve ever tried to rebuild a swash plate without knowing the control linkage geometry, you know why this matters. The oil flow diagrams show exactly how the charge pressure feeds the loop. Skip the aftermarket copies.

For a deeper understanding of gear shift mechanisms, see Manual Transmission. That external reference won’t give you the specs for the high-low gear shift section, but it’ll explain the theory. The actual adjustment values are in the manual.

Mechanical Transmission and High-Low Gear Shift

Two forward, two reverse via a wet clutch pack. The mechanical transmission section covers the high-low shift, front-wheel-drive engagement for 4WD models, and the PTO shift section with the one-way clutch cam. I’ve seen a stripped spline on a PTO shaft because a tech used the wrong shim. The manual tells you the correct engagement sequence. You get the factory procedure, not a YouTube comment.

Wiring Diagram and Electrical Circuit

The Electrical system chapter includes a full wiring diagram and circuit description. The AC dynamo is 12V, 150W, and the starter is 0.8 kW. The Wiring diagram shows the glow plug relay, decompression device, and the safety start interlock. If you’re chasing a no-crank on a cold morning, start there. The circuit layout is OEM differences are zero — no reprints, no aftermarket guesswork.

Hydraulic System and Oil Cooler

Hydraulic tank capacity is 3.1 U.S. quarts. The oil cooler section is short but critical — if you run a backhoe attachment, the cooler lines must be routed per the manual. I’ve had customers overheat the hydrostatic oil because they bypassed the cooler thinking it wasn’t needed. The factory routing avoids aeration.

Why OEM Specs Matter for the Kubota B6200HST and B7200HST

Third-party manuals often copy the specs but miss the notes. This 1991 Kubota Workshop Manual is the original print from the factory. The compression ratio is 22:1, fuel injection pump is Bosch B-type, governor is centrifugal ball mechanical. You don’t see that in generic reprints. The manual also lists the correct lubricating oil — MIL-L-2105B or API-GL-4, SAE 80W-90. Using the wrong oil in the transmission case (2.8 U.S. quarts) will cause shudder on engagement.

Kubota Z402-EB 2000 Workshop Manual – Factory Service Specs covers a different engine but shares the same attention to OEM accuracy.

For reference, another external source: Manual Transmission explains the general principles behind the high-low shift mechanics used in this tractor.

FAQ

Does this manual cover the engine overhaul?
No — it covers only the Mechanism section. You need the separate “Disassembly and Servicing” part for tear-down procedures.
Are torque values included?
Injection pressure and timing specs are on page 3, but full torque tables for fasteners are not in this manual. The wiring diagram on page 73 shows the circuit paths for the starter and glow plugs.
Can I use this for the B6200 mechanical transmission model?
This manual focuses on the HST models. For the mechanical transmission type, Kubota issued a separate B5200-B6200-B7200 manual. The factory note on page 2 says to refer to that manual for sections not covered here. Mixing them up will leave you without proper gear shift specs.
Is the wiring diagram complete?
Yes, there is a full wiring diagram and electrical circuit section. It covers the AC dynamo, battery, starter motor, glow plug circuit, and safety interlocks. Factory-original — you can trace shorts without guessing.

If you’re working on a Kubota B6200HST or B7200HST, stop reaching for a third-party PDF that may or may not have the correct decimal. Get the factory data that the tech line uses. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and keep it on your bench — you’ll thank me when the hydrostatic pump comes apart and you need to know which oil flow valve goes where.
