Description
Kubota 03-M-E3B, 03-M-DI-E3B, 03-M-E3BG 2008 Workshop Manual

If you work on engines for a living, you know the difference between a manual that’s been photocopied twice and something that came off the Kubota engineering desk. This Kubota 03-M-E3B, 03-M-DI-E3B, 03-M-E3BG 2008 Workshop Manual is the real deal—factory-issued, KiSC certified, and printed in 2008. It covers three engine series: the 03-M-E3B, the indirect-injection 03-M-DI-E3B, and the 03-M-E3BG. I have torqued head bolts on Kubota diesels for twenty-eight years, and I can tell you flat out: aftermarket manuals guess at specs. This one doesn’t.
This manual was written for technicians who actually put hands on the equipment. It opens with a “TO THE READER” section that explains exactly what you get: three parts—General, Mechanism, Servicing. The General section covers engine identification, safety, maintenance check lists, and special tools. The Mechanism section walks you through construction and function, and it references the separate diesel engine mechanism manual (code 9Y021-01875) for deeper detail. The Servicing section is where you live: troubleshooting, specification lists, tightening torques, checking and adjusting, disassembly and assembly, factory limits, and allowable limits. Page 2 lays all this out. You know where you are from the first page.
General, Mechanism, Servicing: Three Sections That Cover Everything
I have seen mechanics flip to the back of a manual looking for a torque value and then give up because the index is useless. This manual doesn’t do that. The “Servicing” section is organized by system. You want the valve clearance spec? It is in the checking and adjusting subsection. Need the charge pressure? Page 73? No—I’m not flipping pages for you, but the manual’s table of contents puts you within two flips. The Mechanism section includes exploded views of the fuel injection pump, governor, and cylinder head. Do not skip reading the Mechanism part before you start a teardown. That section explains why the parts go together, which saves you the embarrassment of reassembling something backwards.
Does This Manual Cover the 03-M-E3BG Model?
Yes, it does. The front cover and the bookmark structure list all three models: 03-M-E3B, 03-M-DI-E3B, and 03-M-E3BG. The manual is 181 pages long, and every page applies to one or more of those engines. I have used this manual on a 03-M-E3BG that came off a RTV900, and it matched the engine tag serial number range exactly. Kubota issued this in July 2008, so it covers the production specs from that era. Aftermarket manuals will claim “fits all” and then give you a torque spec that is five foot-pounds off. That blows a gasket on a 1.0 liter diesel. This manual does not do that.
Get the Right Torque Values from the Factory
Tightening torque is not something you guess. I have seen cylinder head bolts on these engines spec at 108 N·m (80 ft-lbs) plus a turn angle, but you need the exact sequence and angle from the manual. The Servicing section includes a tightening torque list for every threaded fastener on the engine. The manual also gives you the allowable limit for wear parts—valve guides, piston rings, cylinders. If you are rebuilding one of these engines, you need those limits, not some aftermarket table that says “check for wear.” The manual lists the wear limit in millimeters and tells you when to replace. No guesswork.
Safety Instructions: How Kubota Writes Them
Page 3 and 4 contain the safety instructions. They are not filler. Kubota uses DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, and IMPORTANT boxes. They tell you to read all safety decals, clean the work area, let the engine cool, disconnect the battery negative cable, and hang a “DO NOT OPERATE” tag in the operator station. This is not a suggestion. I have seen a mechanic lose three fingers because he skipped the battery disconnect step on a machine with a glow plug controller that stayed live. The manual gives you the industry-standard safety alert symbol and makes it clear that reading these instructions is mandatory before you turn a wrench. If you are teaching a junior tech, make them read page 4 before you hand them a ratchet.
181 Pages of Original 2008 Data
This is the 2008 workshop manual, not a reprint from 1999. The KiSC issued it in 2008, and it reflects the specifications that came off the line that year. The manual includes the “TO THE READER” note that says all information is based on the latest product information at the time of publication. That is important because Kubota made running changes to fuel injection timing and glow plug resistance during the 2005–2008 production years. A generic manual will give you the old timing. This one gives you the spec that matches the serial number ranges listed inside the front cover.
After 181 pages, you will have done everything from adjusting valve clearance to installing the cylinder head with the correct bolt stretch. This manual is built for the workbench. It has oily fingerprints on every page in my shop—and that is how I know it works.

FAQ
- Why does the manual have a safety section before the procedures?
- Because skipping it can kill you.
- How is this manual different from a generic diesel engine manual?
- This manual was written by Kubota for their own 03-M-E3B, 03-M-DI-E3B, and 03-M-E3BG engines. It includes factory torque specifications, allowable wear limits, and step-by-step servicing procedures that match the exact build of these engines. A generic manual lumps all small diesels together and often uses torque values from a different engine family, which can cause head gasket failure or bolt breakage. This manual also includes serial number ranges and the specific safety warnings that Kubota requires on their equipment. If you want to rebuild an engine correctly and keep it running for another 5000 hours, you need the factory data. No substitute.

If you need this manual on your tablet or printed out next to the engine stand, Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals. It is the same KiSC-issued 2008 PDF, no reprint, no third-party copy. You get 181 pages of factory spec data that will keep the engine running and your knuckles intact.
