Description

Koehring 6608 1985 Parts Catalog

If you are tearing into a Koehring 6608 and the parts guy gives you that blank stare, this catalog is what you need. I have been wrenching long enough to know that aftermarket cross-references are a crapshoot when the serial number badge is faded. This 90-page Koehring 6608 1985 Parts Catalog came from the factory floor at AMCA International. Not a reprint. Not a photocopy of a copy. The thing opens with serial number 1931 and higher – which is the break point for most 6608s you will find in a boneyard or still running on a San Antonio site.

1985 Koehring 6608 Parts Catalog cover - 90 pages OEM factory document

Crawler & Carbody: Where the Manual Starts

The first section (Group 2) is the lower frame assembly. You see the exact part numbers for the track shoes – 16.9-inch, 21.7-inch, and flat shoe assemblies. Page 1.1 lists the lower frame part numbers with blade and without blade. I have had to order a complete set of idler assemblies for a 6608 before. That part number – 730 4186 – is right there in the table. The washer and bolt specs are printed with the hex sizes: M8 x 16, M10 x 25. You do not guess. You call the dealer and read the number off the page.

Upper Engine & Fuel Tank: Section Breakdown

Group 4 covers the upper structure where the Engine and fuel tank live. The catalog does not give you a rebuild procedure – it is a Parts Catalog, not a service manual. But if you need the engine mount bolt part number or the fuel tank sender, the group number tells you exactly where to look. The Fuel system components are listed under that same group. No generic diagrams. These are the exploded views drawn from the OEM prints.

Electrical System Coverage

Group 14 is the Electrical System. You get the part numbers for the harnesses, switches, and the starter motor – if the original is still available. The catalog also includes the Tools group (Group 15) and the Heating & Air Conditioning group (Group 13). For a machine from the 80s, the A/C parts are sometimes still stocked if you have the right number. This catalog has them.

Why a 1985 Parts Catalog Over Aftermarket?

I have been burned by aftermarket catalogs that list a part number that was superseded twice and never updated. The OEM Koehring catalog from 1985 is the last word for serial numbers 1931 and higher. The part numbers like 730 3662 for the crawler shoe assembly – that is the original. When you walk into a dealer with that number, you get the right shoe. When you show them a copy from a third-party website, you get a shrug. That is the difference. Automotive Industry Overview – even in off-road equipment, the same principle applies.

6 Groups That Save You Hours of Cross-Referencing

The table of contents lists 16 groups, but the heavy hitters are: Crawler & Carbody (2), Upper Structure (3), Counterweight (4), Swing System (6), Pump Drive (7), and Hydraulic System (8). I count six major drivetrain and hydraulic groups that will eat up your time if you have to dig through online databases. The group numbers correspond to the block numbers on every parts page. Open to any page – the group number is printed in the corner. You flip to group 7 for pump drive parts, read the part number, and move on. No scrolling. No pop-up ads.

If you are working on a machine that still has the original Koehring decal, the serial number is stamped on the frame above the turntable. Write it down. This catalog covers 1931 and higher. If you have serial number 1930, you need the older version. But for 95% of the 6608s out there, this is the one. The manual also lists attachment options – the Excavator Attachment (Group 16), Blade Attachment (Group 17), and even an “Attachmen~ Options” section on page 50 (the OCR picked up a tilde, but it is there).

Does This Manual Cover the Excavator Attachment?

Yes. Group 16 is the Excavator Attachment, starting on page 1.6 in the actual document (though the TOC lists it as group 16). That includes the stick, bucket, and all the pins and bushings. You get the part numbers for the bucket pins, the retaining bolts, and the shims. If you are repinning the stick, you want the master bushing part number – 730 3061 – and the collar. All in the catalog. Koehring 6608 Hydraulic Excavator Parts Catalog is the same document, but this listing gives you the digital access.

The Automotive Industry Overview context applies – these manuals come from the same era of industrial documentation. No fluff, just the part numbers and the quantities.

What serial numbers does this manual cover?
Serial number 1931 and higher. If your machine is below 1931, this catalog will not match the lower frame or several other groups.
Are there torque specifications in a parts catalog?
No. This is a parts catalog, not a service manual. You get part numbers, quantities, and exploded views. Torque values would be in the service manual.
Can I use this to order hydraulic pump parts?
Yes. Group 8 (Hydraulic System) lists the pump drive and hydraulic components with OEM part numbers. The pump drive group is separate – group 7.
Does the catalog include electrical schematics?
No. The Electrical System group (14) lists components like switches, lights, and harnesses, but it does not contain wiring diagrams. For schematics, you need the service manual.

You do not have time to cross-reference worn-out part numbers on forums. You need the factory book. Access the Factory Manual now and get the exact OEM part numbers for your Koehring 6608.
