Chassis & Scissor Arms: Diagnostic Port and Traction System (Section 3)

Section 3 is the biggest chunk of the manual – chassis and scissor arms. It opens with the diagnostic port and the multifunction digital indicator (MDI) that tells you brake release status and fault codes. The traction system theory of operation is explained. Then you get the entire Torque Hub section (3.4) with roll test, leak test, oil check/fill procedure, manual disengage procedure (three times, with variations for different hub versions), and full disassembly/assembly steps for the motor, brake, main gearbox, input carrier, hub, and spindle. I’ve used this chapter to rebuild a hub on a 2646ES that had been sitting in mud for two years. The tools list for assembly is specified – you need a bearing splitter, a press, and a torque wrench that reads in ft-lbs.

Section 3.5 and 3.6 cover the electric drive motor – disassembly, bearing replacement, brush inspection and replacement, cable replacement, troubleshooting. There is even a drive motor electrical evaluation procedure (3.7) that walks you through testing the windings and brushes with a multimeter. Preventive Maintenance and Inspection Schedule – Section 2.6

Section 2.6 lays out the preventive maintenance and inspection schedule. It tells you what to do at pre-start inspection, pre-delivery inspection, frequent inspection, annual machine inspection, and preventative maintenance intervals. This is where you find the cylinder drift test procedure (Section 2.4) to check platform drift and cylinder drift. If you skip the drift test and the platform settles two inches while a guy is working at height, that is a safety violation and a lawsuit waiting to happen. Section 2.5 gives pins and composite bearing repair guidelines – use those if your pivot pins are worn.
