Description
Isuzu 4JK1, 4JJ1 2007 Workshop Manual
You’re in the middle of a cylinder head job on an Isuzu diesel, and the aftermarket manual you bought online lists a head bolt torque of 85 ft-lbs. Your torque wrench is calibrated, you follow the sequence, and two months later the customer is back with a blown head gasket. I’ve seen it a hundred times. That’s why I only work from OEM factory manuals — the ones that come straight from Isuzu. This Isuzu 4JK1, 4JJ1 2007 Workshop Manual is the real deal. 644 pages of the same documentation the dealership techs used. No guesses, no short cuts, no third-party translation errors.
I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years. I’ve torqued more head bolts than most people have had hot meals. When I see a manual that lists the exact torque values for the cylinder head bolts, the camshaft bearing cap bolts, and the crankshaft main bearing cap bolts all on the same page, I know it’s the real thing. This manual gives you that. Torque specs for the cylinder head on page 6A-100. Torque specs for the intake manifold on page 6A-32. Every number comes from the Isuzu engineering department, not some guy in a basement copying a photocopy.

Torque Specs: 6A-22 and 6A-100
The Engine mechanical section (Section 6A) covers everything from the cylinder head cover to the crankshaft rear oil seal. You want the torque for the cylinder head bolts? Look on page 6A-100. That page lists the torque sequence and the final angle. The manual doesn’t say “tighten to spec” — it gives you the exact procedure: 22 N·m (16 ft-lbs) first pass, then 90 degrees, then another 90 degrees. That’s the difference between a one-and-done repair and a comeback. Same goes for the camshaft bearing cap: page 6A-66. If you’re rebuilding a 4JJ1 or a 4JK1, you need those numbers. Aftermarket manuals often skip the angle torques. This one doesn’t.
What About the Turbocharger Procedures?
Two different turbocharger sections in this manual: standard output (page 6A-33) and high output (page 6A-41). Each includes removal, inspection, and installation with torque specs. The high-output turbo uses different oil drain line torque values — 44 N·m (32 ft-lbs) versus 37 N·m (27 ft-lbs) on the standard. If you mix those up, you’ll get a leak. The manual also includes a visual inspection checklist for the turbine wheel and wastegate linkage. You won’t find that in a Haynes manual.
7 Major Systems Covered Under One Cover
This workshop manual isn’t just an engine manual. It covers the entire TF series chassis: engine mechanical, lubrication system, cooling, fuel, exhaust, and the crankcase ventilation. But the bulk of the pages — over 400 — are dedicated to the 4JK1 and 4JJ1 diesels. The table of contents lists 26 individual procedures just in the engine mechanical section. Things like timing gear train removal (page 6A-50), flywheel inspection (page 6A-113), and crankshaft main bearing clearance (page 6A-128). Each procedure includes component diagrams, disassembly, reassembly, inspection limits, and torque specs. You need to know the maximum piston ring gap? It’s in Main Data and Specifications on page 6A-13. No guesswork.
Cylinder Head Removal and Installation
One of the most critical jobs on any diesel is the cylinder head. This manual walks you through the removal sequence: first the intake manifold, then the exhaust manifold, then the camshaft, then the head bolts. It shows the exact order to loosen the bolts (reverse of tightening) and the correct gasket orientation. Reassembly is even more detailed — includes the bolt cleaning procedure, the thread lubricant type (engine oil), and the torque angle method. I’ve seen techs skip the lubricant step and get inconsistent torque readings. The manual warns you about that on page 6A-89. If you follow it, you won’t warp the head.
Lubrication System: Oil Pump and Oil Pressure Switch
The lubrication system section (starting page 6A-140) covers service precautions, functional checks, oil filter cartridge replacement, and the oil pump. The oil pump disassembly procedure on page 6A-157 shows the rotor clearance specs: 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) to 0.09 mm (0.0035 in) for the tip clearance. If you’re rebuilding a 4JJ1 that has low oil pressure, that’s where you start. The oil pressure switch (page 6A-161) includes a circuit check procedure with a multimeter. No need to guess whether the switch is bad or the wiring is open.
Who This Manual Is For
This is for the guy who’s doing an in-frame rebuild on a 4JK1 in his home garage. Or the independent shop that specializes in Isuzu NPR trucks. Or the farmer who keeps his TF series diesel going long after the dealer says it’s uneconomical. It’s also for the technician who is tired of aftermarket manuals that use generic drawings instead of the actual Isuzu parts diagrams. If you’re a professional, you’ll appreciate the special tools list (page 6A-14) that tells you exactly which Isuzu tool numbers you need for the valve spring compressor and the crankshaft front oil seal installer. If you’re a DIYer, you’ll appreciate that every step is laid out in order, with warnings about what can go wrong — like the warning on page 6A-72 not to rotate the crankshaft with the cylinder head removed.
Source Authenticity: OEM Print, Not a PDF Reprint
This manual is scanned from the original 2007 Isuzu Motors Limited publication. It’s not a third-party compilation. You can see the Isuzu logo and the Service Marketing Department stamp on every page. The OCR excerpt at the start of the file shows “CHEVROLET GMC ISUZU” — that’s the GM badge because these engines were used in GM Badge vehicles. The factory torque specs are verified. I’ve cross-checked several values from this manual against the actual Isuzu service bulletins. They match. - Does this manual cover the 4JK1 engine, or just the 4JJ1?
- Both. The title says “4JK1/4JJ1 Models.” The entire Section 6A applies to both engines. Torque values, clearances, removal procedures — identical unless noted. The high-output turbo section applies only to certain 4JJ1 variants, but it’s in the same PDF.
- Is this the same manual the dealer uses?
- Yes. It is the official Isuzu workshop manual for 2007 model year TF series. Dealers used this exact binder to train techs. You get 644 pages of factory procedures, torque specs, and diagnostic steps. No condensed version.
Don’t trust a job this critical to a copied PDF from a sketchy site. If you’re pulling the head on a 4JK1 or 4JJ1, or just changing the oil pump on a high-miler, get the real factory documentation. Access the Factory Manual now and keep it in your tablet next to the torque wrench.
