GEHL Z27 2012 Parts Catalog – Factory Parts Breakdown for Compact Excavator

GEHL Z27 2012 Parts Catalog cover showing compact excavator parts manual with exploded diagram

You need a part number for a muffler, a fuel tank, or a track roller on your GEHL Z27 compact excavator. Pull up an aftermarket catalog and you get a generic drawing that doesn’t match what’s bolted to your machine. Waste an hour cross-referencing, order the wrong part anyway, and then you’re waiting another week. That’s exactly why this 2012 OEM Parts Catalog exists. 278 pages of factory-sourced illustrations and part numbers – nothing generic, nothing guessed.

Anyone who tells you a reprint or a scan of a scan is the same thing hasn’t had a $200 track frame bolt show up with the wrong thread pitch. I’ve torqued enough hardware to know that OEM documentation is the only way to verify what you’re buying. This manual is the real deal – printed by GEHL in Dec. 2012, Form No. 50940091, Revision B. No copyright violations, no blurred figures.

GEHL Z27 2012 Parts Catalog – Figure Index Overview

The table of contents is laid out by Figure Index numbers. You get Figure 1 (Label, Canopy) through Figure 60 (Cover, Seat Mount), plus the hydraulic section starting with Figure Index (2) on page 2. Each figure is an exploded view with callouts matching a parts list. Need the muffler and air cleaner assembly? That’s Fig. 7, page 12. Radiator and sub-tank is Fig. 11, page 20. Every bracket, hose, and bolt is numbered and listed with a GEHL part number. No third-party substitutions.

If you need the operator’s manual for actual operation procedures, check out the GEHL Z27, Z35 2012 Operators Manual – Factory Compact Excavator Specs for daily checks and controls.

278 Pages of Factory Parts Breakdown

This isn’t a thin pamphlet. The manual covers the entire machine: engine mount (Fig. 9), fuel tank (Fig. 15), battery (Fig. 17), electric parts around the engine (Fig. 18), starting switch (Fig. 21), travel alarm (Fig. 22), P.T.O. switch (Fig. 24), heater (Fig. 28), window washer (Fig. 29), sprocket (Fig. 30), idler adjustments for rubber and iron crawler specs (Figs. 31–32), track roller (Fig. 33), carrier roller (Fig. 34), crawler (Fig. 35), control levers and pedals (Figs. 36–43), armrest (Fig. 44), control valve plate (Fig. 45), track frame (Fig. 46), turning frame (Fig. 49), greasing (Fig. 50), turning bearing (Fig. 51), and every cover from bonnet to quick coupler. That’s the kind of detail you need when a seal goes and you have to find the exact replacement.

What Torque Specs Are Included?

Standard attaching hardware torque values are on the inside back cover. Metric values are in Newton-meters – you multiply by 0.738 to get foot-pounds. Some figures also show torque values right on the illustration. But pay attention: the introduction on page 2 states clearly that this is a parts manual, not a technical data reference. It doesn’t give you head bolt sequences or hydraulic cylinder rebuild specs. For repair procedures, you need the factory service manual. this Wikipedia article on diesel engines gives you theory, but for your Z27, you want the Genuine GEHL service literature. this Wikipedia article on diesel engines is a good background read if you’re curious about the engine side.

Verify Part Numbers: Ordering Information

The manual tells you exactly how to order: specify the correct part number, full description, quantity, and your machine and engine model and serial numbers. Right, left, front, back are defined from the operator’s seat facing forward, with the excavator house rotated so the blade faces forward. Use only genuine GEHL service parts – the manual warns that aftermarket parts can affect safety and operation. If you’re cross-referencing another GEHL model, the GEHL SL4640, SL4840, SL5640, SL6640 2005 Parts Catalog covers skid loaders, and the GEHL SL7610, SL7710, SL7810 2005 Parts Catalog – OEM Factory Specs handles the larger units. But your Z27 has its own unique parts, so stick with this manual.

Hydraulic Section: Figure Index (2) Details

Figure Index (2) on page 3 is the hydraulic section. It’s a separate index for hoses, tubes, fittings, and cylinders. Each hydraulic component is called out with circled letters or numbers to identify port locations on the actual parts. When you’re tracking down a leak, having the factory diagram of the control valve plate (Fig. 45) and the turning frame (Fig. 49) saves you ordering the wrong O-ring. The manual also includes special tool lists and paint specs for touch-ups – page 1 under Compact Excavator.

Source Validity – OEM vs Aftermarket

This is a genuine GEHL factory manual, printed in the USA in 2012. The OCR excerpt shows the copyright and the warning that design changes may apply without obligation to update older machines. Aftermarket parts catalogs often copy these drawings but blur the part numbers or leave out revision notes. When you buy this, you get the exact same document GEHL dealers use. No reprints, no cut-and-paste jobs. The torque chart, the part numbers, the serial number plate location – all factory correct.

Does this manual include torque specs for all bolts?
No. Only standard torque values are on the inside back cover.
Can I use this catalog to repair my Z27?
No. This is a parts catalog specifically for identifying and ordering replacement parts. It contains exploded views, part numbers, and quantities. It does not include step-by-step disassembly instructions, diagnostic procedures, or specific torque values beyond the standard hardware chart on the inside back cover. Using it as a repair guide will risk breaking components or misassembling the machine. You should always use the corresponding factory service manual for actual repair work. That manual covers tear-down, inspection, and reassembly with exact specs. The parts catalog is a companion, not a substitute. For the Z27, GEHL published a separate service manual. If you don’t have it, you’re guessing. And guessing on a compact excavator’s hydraulic system or track tension costs you time and money.

Every hour you waste hunting for a part number is billable time lost. Factory documentation gets you back to wrenching. If you need to keep your Z27 running with the right parts, get the factory manual. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and stop relying on blurry screenshots.
