Engine Specs: Perkins 1004-4 LR

Engine group 01 covers the Perkins 1004-4 LR diesel. Four cylinders, water cooled, direct injection. Compression ratio 16.5:1. Starting aid is a flame heater with 10 – 15 second preheat. The manual tells you the firing order 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 and start of delivery 17.5° before top dead centre. If you are rebuilding the top end, you need the valve clearances and torque sequences. They are here. Do not use generic specs.

Group 22: Hydrostatic Drive Torque Specs

Hydrostatic drive group 22 is where many shops mess up. The manual lists the charge pressure and torque values for the pump and motor. I have seen a technician tighten a charge pump cover to 50 ft-lbs when it called for 18 ft-lbs. That warps the housing. The factory manual prevents that.
