Why OEM Factory Specs Matter

Aftermarket manuals repackage the same content but drop critical details like the clamp group re-torque interval (page 32). The OEM document from Freightliner is the only one that includes the exact torque for the thrust washer and rear hanger clamp on models built prior to 2010 (page 62). If you’re working on a Sterling built before 4/2009, you need the parts list specific to that build date – aftermarket books lump them all together. FAQ

Does this manual include torque specs for the clamp group?

Yes – page 32 has the re-torque interval and the value for the fasteners holding the axle wrap to the leaf spring. Must be at 250 lb-ft.

I have an older AIRTEK, built in 2008. Will this manual work?

The 2010 edition covers both pre-2010 and 2010 models. The parts list on page 16 is for Freightliner and Western Star built prior to 5/2010 and 6/2010 respectively, plus Sterling built before 4/2009. It also covers the later build dates. That’s 112 pages of overlapping model coverage, so yes, your 2008 vehicle is in here.
