Ford Transit 2005 Training Manual

You’re staring at a stripped bolt and a customer who’s already late. The aftermarket PDF you obtained says “tighten to spec,” but gives no number. Cylinder head torque sequence is on page 26. Do not guess the angle-tighten step. Ford calls for a specific rotation after the initial torque, and if you skip that, you’ll be pulling the head again inside 20,000 miles. The 2.4L version shares many components but adds a centrifugal oil filter on the 140 PS variant – page 31 – and an oil level/temperature sensor on the 103 kW version – page 32. All fuel-injection pressures are given in bar; convert to psi if you need to, but don’t convert the torque values – use the factory numbers.

I’ve seen aftermarket manuals for the Transit that list the oil capacity as 6.5 quarts when the factory spec is 6.9 liters (that’s 7.3 quarts Imperial). The difference matters when you’re filling an engine that grenades if it’s overfilled. Does This Manual Cover the 2.3L Gas Engine?

Yes. Page 33 through 36 cover the 2.3L Duratec-HE (MI4) gasoline engine, including engine data on page 34 and component locations. Torque specs for the cylinder head are listed alongside the diesel engines – make sure you use the correct ones for the gas version. The manual also includes wiring diagrams for the ignition system and crankshaft position sensor.

FAQ

What about the ABS system – does it include bleeding procedures?

The manual covers ABS system overview and active rollover protection, but bleeding requires the Ford diagnostic tool. The hydraulic circuit is shown in general, but for pressure bleeding you need the manufacturer’s scan tool.

Can I use this for a 2004 Transit?

No. This is for the 2006.5 model year (produced from 04/2006). The earlier models use different engine families and wiring.
