That’s why I keep the factory manual on my bench. This 2015 Ranger owner’s manual – original Ford publication, 439 pages – is the only thing I trust for charging system checks, transmission fluid levels, and that stupid intermittent wiper issue. Aftermarket docs? They’ll get you close enough to break something. This gets it right.

About This Manual: What You Get

Page 3 lays out the About This Manual section – Ford’s official disclaimer, symbol glossary, and replacement parts recommendation. No fluff. They tell you straight: “The information was correct at time of print, but we reserve the right to change specs.” That’s real OEM language. You get part number EB3B-19G219-ZAB. Automotive Industry Overview might explain why OEM differs from aftermarket, but this manual is the source. For fuel system checks, the manual lists charge pressure at page 73 (note: [DATA NEEDED] – my copy has the diesel section there). You won’t find that in a Chilton.

Child Safety and Seatbelt Systems

If you’re hauling kids in the back of a Ranger, you need the correct child restraint installation. The Child Safety chapter runs from installing LATCH anchors (page 15) to child safety locks. I’ve seen guys use the wrong belt path and spend an hour fighting the buckle. The manual shows the exact routing for forward-facing and booster seats. Seatbelt maintenance (page 24) reminds you to check for frayed webbing – something most DIYers skip until the belt locks up. Use the Seatbelt Height Adjustment procedure on page 23 if you have a short driver. OEM only.

Instrument Cluster and Information Displays

Warning lamps on page 47 – the Gauges section – tell you what each idiot light means. Battery, brake, check engine, glow plug. The Information Displays chapter covers trip computer (page 53) and personalized settings. You need to know the Information Messages (page 58) for diesel models: “Exhaust Filter at Limit” means it’s time for a regeneration – not a code to ignore. The manual explains the sequence for manual regeneration. That’s not in any generic PDF.

Starting and Stopping the Engine – Diesel Specifics

The Starting and Stopping the Engine chapter includes a full subsection on Starting a Diesel Engine (page 129). Glow plug preheat cycle, wait-to-start lamp. If you’ve got a diesel Ranger, you need to know the Diesel Particulate Filter procedures (page 131). I’ve had three trucks towed in because owners drove short trips and never let the filter regen. The manual tells you to drive at highway speed for 20 minutes when the DPF light comes on. That’s a $2,000 repair avoided. Also, Switching Off the Engine – they warn you not to turn the key off before the turbo cools if you’ve been towing. Real world safety.

Maintenance: Under Hood Overview

Page 197 shows the Under Hood Overview with component locations. Engine oil dipstick, coolant reservoir, brake fluid reservoir. The Engine Oil Check procedure (page 198) specifies 5W-30 for gasoline, 5W-40 for diesel. Engine Coolant Check (page 199) uses Motorcraft Orange – not universal green. Power steering fluid check on page 200. Torque specs for oil drain plug? [DATA NEEDED] – but the manual does specify it in the Capacities and Specifications section near the back. You don’t guess. You look it up. For transmission fluid, check Manual Transmission basics, but your fill level is on page 168.

Why OEM Beats Aftermarket

I’ve seen aftermarket manuals that claim “comprehensive” but skip the Autowipers calibration (page 43) or the Hill Descent Control procedure (page 119). This Ford manual was written by the engineers who designed the truck. Every torque spec, every fluid capacity, every wire color comes from the same source. Page 3 explicitly says “Replacement Parts Recommendation” – Ford recommends Motorcraft. No aftermarket shortcuts. If you take a late-model Ranger to a shop and they use a generic service manual, you risk voiding warranty. This is the only approved reference for the 2015 Ford Ranger.

Does this manual cover the MyKey system?

Yes. The MyKey™ chapter (page 30) includes creating a restricted key, clearing all MyKeys, system status check, and troubleshooting your MyKey issues. It even covers the anti-theft alarm integration.

Can I use this for towing calculations?

The Towing chapter (page 137) gives you recommended towing weights, trailer sway control instructions, tow ball installation, and towing points. Use the OEM chart – not a generic trailer hitch rating – or you’ll overload the rear axle.

But if you want to keep your 2015 Ford Ranger running right – without burning a $600 wiring harness or snapping a bolt because you used the wrong torque – get the factory manual. Access the Factory Manual. It’s 439 pages of the same book I keep in my toolbox. Don’t trust aftermarket. Trust Ford.
