Description
1998 Dodge Neon and Neon Sport Wiring Diagram – Factory OEM Manual
Let me tell you what happens when you chase a short in a 1998 Dodge Neon using some third-party wiring sketch you found online. You spend two hours tracing a pink wire that turned out to be a tan wire in the real harness. Then you fry a PCM because the diagram showed a ground where there wasn’t one. I’ve seen it happen. That’s why this 36-page OEM wiring diagram for the 1998 Dodge Neon and Neon Sport sits on my bench. It came from the same Mitchell data that dealers used. No aftermarket guessing.

A/C Circuit – Page 1 Routing
The first page of this Wiring Diagram shows the A/C circuit. Page 1 gives you the compressor clutch relay path, high-pressure switch connections, and the blend-door actuator wiring. If your Neon’s A/C clutch won’t engage, start here. You’ll find the splice locations and wire colors exactly as they left the factory. I’ve used this same diagram to diagnose a failed low-pressure cutout switch on a Neon Sport – saved me pulling the dash apart.
Heater Circuit and Anti-Lock Brakes – Two Systems, One Manual
Turn to page 2 and you get the heater circuit. Resistor block wiring, blower motor speeds, mode door actuator – it’s all there. Page 3 dives into the anti-lock brake circuits. This is critical if you own a Neon Sport with ABS. The ABS module power feed, wheel speed sensor wires, and pump motor relay – factory color codes. Don’t trust aftermarket ABS diagrams. I’ve seen them swap a sensor ground with a power line. That’s a $400 controller gone. Stick with this OEM source.
Computer Data Lines – What the 1998 Neon Wires Do
The diagnostic connector pins and PCM communication lines are mapped in sections following page 3. The Dodge engineers used a specific twisted-pair for the SCI bus. If your scan tool won’t connect, the problem is usually a broken data wire at the C202 connector. This manual shows the exact pin numbers and splice points. I keep a copy on my tablet because the factory wire colors change between early and late 1998 production – the manual accounts for that.
7 Systems Covered in 36 Pages
Some people ask why a wiring diagram takes 36 pages. Because it covers everything: starting-charging, lighting, power windows, door locks, instrument cluster, engine sensors, and body control module signals. Each system gets its own schematic with component locations. No generic “typical” diagrams. You get the actual 1998 Dodge Neon layout. For reference, check out the 1997 Dodge Neon System Wiring Diagrams if you need the earlier year, or the Dodge Stratus 1998 Wiring Diagram – OEM Factory Manual for a different model. Does This Manual Cover the Neon Sport Trim?
Yes. The Neon Sport had extra circuits: fog lights, different ABS modulator, and a tachometer output from the PCM. This manual includes those variations. I’ve personally used the Sport ABS section to confirm the wheel speed sensor resistances (900-1300 ohms, by the way). The standard Neon base model gets its own pages, but the Sport-specific wiring is clearly marked. No confusion.

FAQ
- Can I use this manual for a 1998 Plymouth Neon?
- No. Plymouth Neon used different connector pinouts on the body control module. This manual is specifically for Dodge-branded Neon and Neon Sport models. Go look for the Plymouth version.
- What about the power-top switch on a convertible Neon Sport?
- That circuit is in the convertible top supplement, not here. This manual covers the base wiring – A/C, heater, ABS, computer data lines, lighting, and power accessories. The convertible top power feed is shown in the body section (page 22 of the main manual). For the full top control module wiring you need the convertible supplement. I always tell guys: buy the supplement too if you have a ragtop.
