Description

Atlas Copco QAX 12 Dd, QAX 20 Dd, QAX 24 Dd, QAX 30 Dd, QAX 35 Dd 2010 Operators Manual

Atlas Copco QAX 12 Dd Operators Manual 2010 cover - 94 pages

Crack open a generic manual and you find missing torque specs for the main bearing cap. That’s the kind of frustration that costs you a weekend and a gasket set. This Atlas Copco QAX 12 Dd, QAX 20 Dd, QAX 24 Dd, QAX 30 Dd, QAX 35 Dd 2010 Operators Manual is the OEM factory document – 94 pages of what the engineers wrote, not some aftermarket rewrite. It’s what I keep in the shop for any QAX series job.

Engine and Cooling System: What the 94-Page Manual Covers

Engine and cooling system data is covered in the General description chapter. The manual breaks down the engine, alternator, and cooling system with schematic-level detail. Page 33 has the engine oil specs – PAROIL 5W40 and 15W40 with viscosity grades. None of that “check your local supplier” garbage. It’s printed. Cooling system maintenance steps for cleaning coolers are in the Adjustments section. If you skip that step on a QAX 35 Dd running in Texas heat, you’ll be replacing a head gasket. I’ve seen it.

Qc1002 Control Panel: Start, Stop, and Fail Classes

Qc1002 module is the brain. The manual dedicates a full section to pushbutton and LED functions, menu overview, and remote start operation. You get fail class definitions – knowing the difference between a fail class 1 and fail class 2 shutdown can save you an hour of diag. The remote start wiring is diagrammed with pinouts. No guesswork. If the control panel throws a code, you flip to that chapter and trace it.

Torque Values and Fluid Capacities – Where the OEM Data Lives

Torque specs for general applications and important assemblies are listed in the technical specifications section. The manual uses imperial units with a conversion list. Need the torque for the alternator mounting bolts? It’s in there. Fluid capacities for the QAX 24 Dd are tabulated. This is the difference between a bolt that stays tight and one that strips out at 3 AM on a jobsite.

Safety Precautions – Not Optional Reading

Safety section covers transport, installation, operation, maintenance, battery safety, and tool applications. If you’re lifting a QAX 30 Dd onto a lighting tower, the lifting instructions are specific. The spillage free design and lifting beam procedures are spelled out. The manual warns about unauthorized parts and modifications – that’s not legal CYA, that’s engineering. I’ve seen DIY guys fry a control board because they used a non-OEM battery.

Troubleshooting and Alternator Checks

Page 39 starts the checks and trouble shooting chapter. Checking voltmeter P4, ammeter P1, alternator troubleshooting, engine troubleshooting. The alternator insulation resistance measurement procedure is marked with an asterisk – that’s a critical step before any megohm test. The fault tree is laid out stepwise. You don’t need to call Atlas Copco support; you have it here.

Torque values are tabulated for general and critical fasteners.

If the generator drives a manual transmission pump, review basic manual transmission fundamentals on Manual Transmission and Manual Transmission for general knowledge. For other Atlas Copco generator manuals, check the Atlas Copco XAHS 146 Dd 2006 Operators Manual – Factory Specs and the Atlas Copco Boomer L1 D L2 D ML2 D Mark VII 2008 Operators Manual; the Atlas Copco XRHS 486 Md, XRHS 396 Md, XRVS 466 Md, XRVS 346 Md 2005 Operators Ma covers the larger compressors.

Does this manual cover the canopy and hardhat versions?
Yes. The “Main parts” section shows both Metal Canopy and Hardhat units.
I see references to PAROIL – can I use any 15W-40?
The manual specifies PAROIL 5W40 and 15W40, but the key is the API service category and viscosity. If you use a non-approved oil, the engine warranty gets voided. The OEM spec includes the exact PAROIL part numbers. For the field, I’d stick with factory-approved oil because the injection pump calibration and turbo bearing clearances are matched to that viscosity range. Using a generic 15W-40 that meets CI-4 might work, but why risk a $4,000 engine? The manual gives you the data – use it.

If you’re working on any QAX series generator – from the 12 Dd to the 35 Dd – having the factory document on your tablet or printed out saves mistakes. Access the Factory Manual from AutoRepairManuals and keep it next to your torque wrench.
