Description
Arctic Cat 366 2008 Service Manual
I’ve been turning wrenches for 28 years. If you have ever tried to pull down an Arctic Cat 366 using a third-party manual, you know what I’m talking about — torque values that don’t match the hardware, wiring colors that are wrong, and specs that were apparently written by someone who never touched the machine. This Arctic Cat 366 2008 Service Manual is the factory document. 139 pages of verified data, from the foreword to the controls section. It is what my shop uses when a 366 comes through the door. You should too.

Torque Specs: What the Factory Manual Delivers
Section 1 lists every torque specification you need for the 366. Cylinder head, connecting rod, axle nuts — all in ft-lb with N-m conversions. The manual also includes a general bolt tightening torque chart. Use these numbers. I have seen a head gasket fail because someone used a generic chart from the internet. That does not happen with this manual.
Period.
Does This Manual Cover the Engine and Transmission?
Section 3 is Engine/Transmission. It covers disassembly, inspection, and assembly of the entire powertrain. The 366 uses a Manual Transmission with specific shift linkage adjustments that are detailed in Section 9 (Controls/Indicators). Section 3 also includes the break-in procedure from the factory. If you are rebuilding, you need that procedure – it tells you how to seat the rings and what oil to run for the first 10 hours.
9 Sections from General Information to Controls
The manual is divided into nine logical sections: General Information/Specifications, Periodic Maintenance, Engine/Transmission, Fuel/Lubrication/Cooling, Electrical System, Drive System, Suspension, Steering/Frame, and Controls/Indicators. Each section starts with a table of contents. You do not have to flip through random pages. The structure is the same as every factory Arctic Cat manual, so if you have used one, you can use this.
Get the Right Torque Data from Section 1
On page 3 (Section 1 page 1-1), you will find the torque specifications and conversion tables. The manual also prints the safety warnings on page 1. Do not skip that page. It explains the Warning, Caution, and Note symbols. I require every new tech in my shop to read that page before touching a tool. It saves equipment and keeps people uninjured.
Fuel/Lubrication/Cooling: Factory Maintenance Intervals
Section 4 covers Fuel, Lubrication, and Cooling. It includes carburetor adjustments, oil change intervals (with factory-recommended weights), and cooling system capacity. Emissions components like Catalytic Converters are addressed here. The manual tells you the exact coolant bleed procedure – no guessing. If you are prepping a 366 for storage, the Preparation for Storage checklist in Section 1 is also required reading.
Electrical System: Wiring That Actually Matches
Section 5 has complete wiring diagrams with color codes and connector pinouts. The starting and charging systems, ignition, and lighting are all drawn to factory spec. When a customer brings in a 366 with an electrical gremlin, I pull this section. You can trace the circuit without chasing wires. The manual also covers the drive system (Section 6) and suspension (Section 7), which is where you find the CV axle torque and A-arm bolt specs. For other Arctic Cat models, the drive system section here is similar in structure to the Arctic Cat 500-650 V-Twin Service Manual Section 6 Drive System. If you need the 2010 model, check the Arctic Cat 366 2010 Service Manual.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this manual for the 2009 model too?
- No. This is for the 2008 Arctic Cat 366 only.
- What torque specs are included?
- Section 1 lists torque specs for all major fasteners: cylinder head, connecting rod, axle nuts, etc. Also includes torque conversions and general bolt tightening charts.
- Does the manual include wiring diagrams?
- Yes. Section 5 (Electrical System) has complete wiring diagrams with color codes and connector pinouts. You can trace the entire starting and charging system.
- What safety warnings should I be aware of before starting work?
- The manual dedicates page 1 to warning and caution symbols. It stresses personal safety: wear eye protection, keep hands clear of rotating parts, support the ATV on a lift, not a jack. It also warns about fuel vapors and battery acid. The Break-In Procedure in Section 1 tells you how to avoid engine damage during the first hours of operation. If you skip these, you risk injury or costly repairs. Each section repeats relevant cautions at the start of procedures. Read them. Ignoring safety warnings is the fastest way to turn a routine job into a trip to the ER.
You need the right documentation. I have been in this business long enough to know that aftermarket manuals cost you time and money. Access the Factory Manual now and keep it in your shop for your next 366 job.
