Real-World Use: Tracing a No-Start on a 2005 RL

Friday afternoon, 4:45 PM, a 2005 RL rolls in dead. No crank, no communication with the PCM. Customer swears it’s the battery. Quick voltage check shows 12.6V, but the PCM isn’t waking up. Pop this manual open to the control unit section. PCM location: under middle of dash, Fig. 82. Follow the power distribution page: the main relay gets power from the under-hood fuse/relay box, then feeds the PCM. Pull the relay, test continuity — dead. Ten-minute fix. Does this manual include wiring diagrams for the moonroof control unit?

Yes. The moonroof control unit location is on page 141 (rear of roof), and the schematic covers the power and ground circuits, including the switch inputs.

What’s the difference between this and a Haynes wiring diagram?

Haynes redraws circuits and often omits connector pin numbers. This factory electrical schematic shows every pin, every splice, and every ground point as the OEM designed it. If you’re diagnosing an intermittent communication fault between the VSA modulator-control unit and the PCM, a generic diagram won’t show the twisted-pair routing. This one does.
